Kiwi Can
This week Wednesday we had Kiwi Can with Mr Matt and Ms Paige. Our theme is respect for our school and our Topic is respect. The first game we played was our energiser which was Centre Ball. For this game we got into a small circle and Paige numbered everyone off between 1 and 4. In the middle of our circle was a ball. If one of the leaders called a number like "3", then all of the threes had to run around the circle clockwise until they are back in there spot, and had to go through and grab the ball. Who ever was the first to get it, one. I got the ball for all my number callings. After the rounds we came back to the mat in four lines and talked about rules. Next we played our activity which was Bus stop. Ms Paige numbered 5 people and they were a group. We had to write "Boy name, Girl Name, Food, Animal, Color, and Total" on a sheet of paper. One of the leaders gave us a letter and we had to fill out as much columns as we could. If you finished everything you shouted "bus stop" and everyone had to stop writting. If another group got the same answer as you, then you get a point as 5, but if no one did then it was a 10. After adding up the points we got for each answer we wrote in the total. My group was Hosea, Diana, Xaiver and Me. In the end we got 185 points. We lastly came back to the mat to re-cap our theme, topic, and what we did, then headed back to class.
Te Huarere (weather) | Maori
This week Wednesday we had another Maori Session with Ms. Whaea Ode. This week she read us a story about the weather in Maori. On the board we had to research Mt. Everest, Wanaka, Lake Wakatipu, and Tairawhiti. Then we had to make a D.L.O either a google presentation or google draw, and write about the weather for the past few days from Sunday until this Wednesday in Maori. On Sunday it was cloudy, Monday was rainy, Tuesday was Rainy, and Wednesday (today) is Sunny. I worked with Kaitlyn and together we made a google presentation. We each did two slides about the weather and found a photo of the weather in Auckland to represent it.

Blog Commenting
Today I commented on Viliami's blog. I commented on his Maori blog post. I think his blog post was great. We also did the same activities in Maori but I wanted to hear someone else's POV and what they managed to do. I liked how he explained everything that happened in simple detail and used a photo of the task that he managed to complete. I also like how he provided information he found on his research. I thought it was a good idea for him to put what Parihaka was just for people who didn't know it. I wanted to know if he found it hard looking for Parihaka on the map.

Timetables Test | Can Do
This week I decided complete a Can Do under Math. This was the timetables test where you test your knowledge and speed on your time stables. There are 10 questions with 10 different options of answers. Once you begin the game, a timer is start to see how fast you can answer the questions. It is recorded how much you got correct and how much you got wrong. It also shows what timetable you did on a grid next to the test. My goal was to get all the answers correct. My score is shown above and the problems I answered.
Kiwi Sport | Boxing
This week Thursday we had our first session of Boxing. Today in this kiwi sport session we learnt positioning, and two types of punches. First we learnt the 3 commandments which are respect, discpline and safety. These the three things we needed to have in the boxing lessons. We went over a little bit about boxing before putting on thing gloves and then putting on boxing gloves. The first thing we learnt, was our boxing postition which is how we stand when boxing. To do this we start by standing front, right leg out, then right leg back. We also had to bend our knees a little so we were balanced. Then with our upper body, we hold tight so we are firm and with our hands (boxing gloves), we the knuckles over our face so we are secured. This was called rock position. Then In this stance, we learnt the Jab which is basically a quick punch that we did with our left hand. We also practised doing the jab two times in one go. The next punch we learnt was a basic punch with our right hand. Since our right leg was back, our right hand was a little back too so we had to twist our body to punch. After getting that, we did a combo of "Jab, Punch, Jab" and "Jab, Jab, Punch". Once we learnt these basic boxing moves, our lesson was finished. We took our boxing gloves and gloves off and recapped the 3 commandments and the things we did today. We said goodbye to Paxs who was our coach, and went back to class.
Messed up Recount - Fix Up | Paragraph Linking
L.I: To correct certain structure and language features in a recount.
This week for writing we looked at paragraph linking in a recount to correct a messed up one that we read. First we had a lesson where we discussed and talked about paragraph structure in a recount and paragraph linking. The recount was titled as "Walking up Mount Fuji" written by our teacher. Then we went away and fixed up recount so that the paragraphs linked up and made sense. We also had to highlight the changes we made so that they were easily visible. To link paragraphs you need to make sure the last sentence relates to the next paragraph.

M.A.I.N Causes | WW1
This week for Inquiry we completed another activity from the WW1 interactive notebook. This time working with our partners, we had to look at the M.A.I.N and the causes of WW1. The M in M.A.I.N as militarism, A as alliances, I as Imperialism, and N as Nations. To find our information we looked at 3 videos which explained the M.A.I.N causes. We also used a google drawing with boxes with setences in them relating and linked to either on the M.A.I.N. We then had to looked at the immediate cause of world war one and write it down with a photo giving a visual example.
Dance Mat Typing - Keyboarding | Daily 6
L.I: To learn touch typing.
Today for a Daily 6 on keyboarding, I completed stage 2 of level 2 on Dance Mat Typing called "W O". In this one, we learn the movement of typing "W and O" when our fingers are on the home row keys. To do this we use our finger on the S, to reach up and touch the near by W key. With the O key, we use our finger on the L key to move one key up to get it. We practised doing them by typing on our keyboard what was on the screen. The cans below showed how far we were into level. I think I need more practise but have gotten use to the home row keys and "T and Y".

Conflict & Resolution (Graphic Organiser) | Painted Hoe
L.I: To analyse a story for it's conflict and resolution.
This week for reading we read a new story called Painted Hoe and had to find its conflict and resolution. This was a bit tricky because the story was true, but we were able to figure it out. Once reading the first two pages, we had to identify who the main parties were as in groups of people, and what the conflict might be. We soon went away and read the rest of the story to find the resolution. We had to go through the whole story and submit a question using a form so that we could understand the book more. We then had to fill out a conflict and resolution graphics organiser to painted hoe like we did last week with the book Sparks. We were to fill out the empty boxes for the characters, their ideals/wants, the conflict it caused, two actions leading up to the last box, which was the resolution.
Maori Lesson
This week we had another Maori session with Ms. Whaea Ode. In this lesson our teacher read us a book called Remember that November which is a New Zealand book about guy fox day which is coming up this November the 5th. Then we had to research on google maps where Taranaki and Parahaki are located in New Zealand. We also had to research Parahaki on wikepedia to find out more about the event and important information we will need in the next session when we re-write the story. If we had head/ear phones we could listen to a song called Parahaki by Tim Finn. To find the song, Wikipedia site, or map of Taranaki in New Zealand, click the following links below.

Cyber-smart | Media Construction
L.I: To identify gimmicks used to attract and persuade people to purchase products.
This week for cyber-smart we are continuing with Media Construction and learning about Media, and gimmicks. This week is our last week focusing on this subject. For our lesson we had to look at a few questions about the co-co crunch cereal and media. We had to think about who created this media product, what is its purpose, what do its creators believe about their products and customers that are shown in the content and discuss with our peers. Then we chose our own media in the school and answered who created the media product, what is its purpose, and what are some of the ways you attract your audience. I chose a notice which is a form of media that we get almost every week.
Geometry - Flip, Rotation, Translation
L.I: To show our learning
This week for Math we decided on a new focus to learn about. This week I chose to do Geometry where we looked at shapes and flip, rotation, translation, face, vertices, and edges. After the lesson, we went away to show our understanding by creating a D.L.O showing our learning and an activity for others to do so we can be interactive with our viewers. I created a google presentation to show case my work and used a google draw to show an interactive activity with. In the presentation I made individual slides for each of the actions, flip, rotation, and translation. In the activity I decided to make a template to fill out about the the actions.

Dance Mat Typing | Daily 6
L.I: To learn touch typing
This week for Daily 6 under keyboarding, I completed stage 1 called "T Y" of level 2 of Dance Mat Typing. I haven't been working on my keyboarding skills for a while so I have to get use to the finger placing of the keys again. In this level we learnt the finger placing for the keys T and Y. In this one the bottom row of things showed the lines typed and how far we are through. It began with warm up, left hand, right hand, and both hands. We also re-capped a few of the finger placing and touching for the other keys in the last level. To press the T key, we use our left finger on the f, to just press it. To get the Y key, we used our right hand on the J and touch it.

Blog Commenting
Today I commented on Angelica's blog. I commented on her Character Web blog post. I think she did good job. I was curious to know what she has been doing for her reading. I've also used character web before around last year to a Roald Dahl book. I like how she explained in a brief description what to do when filling out one or creating one. I also liked how the D.L.O was simple and clear for viewers to understand. I'd like to know what book she picked the character to do from since she didn't mention it in the blurb.
Sky Tower Recount | Mock Test
L.I: To quickly write a recount using the correct structure and language.
This week for writing we re-created what the writing test coming up is going to be like so that we aren't as pressured in the real one and are used to what it's like. We had to write the recount about the Sky Tower trip that most of us went to, and the others who didn't had to write about something they did in the holidays or at any other time. We first re-capped what we did at the sky tower and the main events so we had an idea on what to write about. Then we went away and had 40 minutes to write the recount. Later on in the week, we went back and looked at the recounts and rated them using a writing Rubic. Then we commented on our writing on the two starting paragraphs on we we should have corrected. My recount is shown above.

Conversions | Units of Measurements
L.I: To show learning of how to convert and be interactive with your D.L.O.
This week for Math we filled out a form to choose what we needed and wanted to learn more about to help us get a better understanding of that topic. I felt that I wanted to learn more about conversions and measurements. We had to ask a question we want answered in that lesson so we can get understand what we needed to from that lesson. We learnt how to convert between units of measurements that are used for specific reasons. First we learnt to convert between mm, cm, m, and km which is usually for measuring length and distance, etc. Then we did ml and l which are usually for measuring liquids like water. We lastly learnt the conversions of mg, g, kg, t which are usually for weighing things. We had to go away after the lesson to show our learning and understanding of the topic and create a D.L.O not only showing our learning, but being able to be interactive with the viewers. I did this by writing equations for each reasons of measurements and using a place value house others can use to do it. If you would like to do it, click the link below to work it out before seeing the answer.

Interactive Book | WW1
L.I: To learn about the conflict, causes, and resolution to World War 1.
This term for inquiry were focusing on peace relating to conflict and resolution. We're re-searching and learning about WW1 and it's conflict and resolution in that. We first paired up and completed two activities from an interactive notebook with our partner. My partner was Florence. The first was WW1 Vocabulary list which was about words under WW1 that was related to the topic. For that, there was a template which was the word, then we had to find the definition, and an image. Then next one was a timeline that leaded up to world war 1. We had to look at a site that gave us the answers to what started and leaded up to WW1.

Media Construction: Gimmicks | Co-Co Crunch Cereal
L.I: To identify gimmicks used to attract and persuade people to purchase the product.
This week for Cybersmart we re-capped what media is, and examples of it. For this session we looked at gimmicks which are used when advertising product, to get people to purchase it. It usually depends on the audience they are aiming the product for, like kids. To show our learning and understanding of the usage of gimmicks, we went on a site where we could create our own website advertisement for a cereal brand using some gimmicks. The name of the cereal was "Co-Co Crunch". We could pick a gimmick to use for specific parts it needed. This helped us actually create one to get a better understanding. In the end we used the photo to help explain the gimmicks in it. Our creations weren't real advertisements for the cereal, but would help us get a better idea of what it was about. You can check out a photo of my advertisement website I created above and check out the site used below.

Character Kete | The Best Worst Thing
L.I: To infer information about a character.
Today I completed the Character kete Can Do for Reading. The book I chose to make it about was called "The Best Worst Thing". In the Google Presentation above, I had to summarise the book, and complete the template which was to type to title and take a photo of the book in the first slide. Then choose a character from the book and write what items they might carry in their kete. I chose the character Kathleen because she was one of the main characters in the book. After listing the items, we had to explain why we said those items. I haven't finish reading the entire book, but the first part is about a murderer being on the loose around their neighbour hood and Kathleen and her sisters being scared straight.

Conflict and Resolution | Sparks
This week for reading we read a text called Sparks to find its conflict and resolution. We first talked about what conflict and resolution are and what they mean. After reading the first two pages as a class, we discussed the characters and what the conflict might be. Then we went away to show our learning by making a copy of a conflict and resolution template. We had to read the rest of the story and fill the information needed in the template. A story connected to the one we read, is Man and Sea from in the cultural story about the black octopus and the chief son. The conflict for that is when the two started fighting and the ideals from the two characters was the chiefs son wanted to kill the octopus and the black octopus wanted to kill the chiefs son. The resolution was the octopus was killed and the chiefs son returned home to the village with the blood of the black octopus remaining.
Maori Session | In the Beginning
This week Wednesday we had the first Maori session of term 4 with Ms. Whaea Odi. In this session we were read the story "In the Beginning" by Whaea Odi and then watched a video of the story created in sand art. We then rehearsed the lyrcis of a Maori song called - Hoki Mai e Tama Ma and looked at the lyrics for it which the page had in English and Maori. Then we researched and looked at the tribal areas (rohe) in Aoteroa/New Zealand. Here are the sites I checked out - Map | Te Kahui Mangai, and Trible-areas. We would continue to learn the song and the areas. We also talked about how New Zealand was discovered by a man named Kahe and his wife. They were in the pacifics and used the coconuts there, for food and drink on the way. They followed the way of the stars when It was night and the sun when morning. They moved there for more space because the islands were small and it would be too crowded there so they discovered New Zealand and moved there. In the next lesson we would be talking a bit more about the tribal areas and the song.
Kiwi Can
We first got straight into our energiser which was was called Rules vs No rules. For this, we played a game of tag without rules and then with the rules. For the first round we played without rules where everyone was the taggers and even if you were tagged, you could continue tagging other people. At the end of that game, everyone thought without rules it wasn't a proper game of tag and it was unfun.
Then we played the round with the rules where Mr. Mat and Ms. Peho went around tagging people with a pool noodle. If you got tagged you had to sit on the lino whilst you wait for everyone else to be tagged to finish the game. In this version of playing, everyone thought it was fun bu more difficult which makes it a proper game of tag. We also played another round where we had to hop which made it more harder too.
We came back to the mat and discussed discussed values we have in and out of school. Then we split into four groups to begin our activity. One person from each group went up to find out what the activity was about and tell the rest of their group. It was a scenario where there was a shared lunch but two students didn't bring any food. We could make an act where we did the version of a bad acceptance and good acceptance. In my group was Florence, Ellenora, Miiana, and Angelica, and we all decided to do re-enact a good act for the scenario. The other groups decided to do the bad version of how the scenario went. After everyone was finished preforming the short acts, we talked about what happened in them, then came back on the mat to finish up the lesson.
We lastly had a game of GKQ which stands for general knowledge questions and the last master started the game off with any person then going any direction from there. The master for last term was Fanini. Each of the leaders would ask questions and whoever was the first to answer between the two won, and continued playing to verse the other people until the last person. In the end me and Ms. Page versed, and I had won the battle. We finally re-caped what we did and the new themes and topics before saying goodbye to everyone and heading off back to class.
