Kiwi Can

This Wednesday we had Kiwi Can with Mrs. Paige. Our theme is positive relationships and our topic is positive communication. Our focus was tone of voice, which means how we present our voices to show how we feel. Our energiser was fruit salad. Everyone spread out around the classroom, and the leader would call out a fruit which we had to preform the action for. Apple meant we had to move our hips the left, pear meant we had to move our hips to the right, banana meant we had to bend froward, watermelon meant that we had to bend backward. We played a few rounds before coming back to the mat to play our activity. It was called positive and negative role-play. We each we split into 4 groups of 5 and one group had 6. I was partnered with Nyjah, Florence, Giovanni, and Aung Naing. Mrs. Paige gad every team a laminated card which had a scenario written on it, and we had to come up with a positive version of it. Ours said that someone misses a pass and the coach yells at the member. We practised outside our acting, and we would be playing netball but Aung Naing missed the ball. The 'coach' Nyjah, would yell at him for it and the team members (Victoria, Florence, and Giovanni) would help comfort Aung Naing. After organising our act, each group presented our cards and what we had come up with. Another thing would should have added was to get Nyjah to apologise. Everyone did great, and just before leaving the softball inter-school players came back, also teacher supervisors who went. We finished up our session and said Goodbye to Mrs. Paige and Mr. Alapati.

Life at Panmure Bridge School (Silver Respect) | C.A.R.E Award

As the last activity for me to be able to get the Silver Respect Badge, I was to collate a collage about life at PBS. I showcased general ideas of what we use daily at school, including our digital learning, our learn, create, share pedagogy, and C.A.R.E Values. This activity was signed off by our boy sports leader, Julian.

Presentation on a Respect Leader (Silver Respect) | C.A.R.E Award

As one of the last activities for me to earn the Silver Respect Badge, I made a presentation on a Respected Leader. I chose to make it on a Panmure Bridge School student, which is our 2019 head girl Mele. I think this was a good choice because she has many qualities that all fit in of why she is one of the heads and gets respect for her job. This was signed off by our girl Sports Leader, Fui.

Making Dinner for my Family (Silver Respect) | C.A.R.E Award

As an activity to help me earn the Silver respect Badge, I made the meal of dinner for my family. I couldn't have been able to do it if my mom wasn't helping. I think I would've found it easier to make a breakfast than a dinner, because it was pretty challenging. This activity was signed off by our head girl, Mele.

Mrs. Millward Thank You Letter (Silver Respect) | C.A.R.E Award

As another activity to earn the Silver Respect badge, I wrote a thank you letter to a teacher/staff, which was Mrs. Millward. I decided to make it to her because she was my first teacher at Panmure Bridge School and I thought it would be special. I really liked how it turned out, and I hope she gets to see this. This activity was signed by our head girl, Mele.

Research on Aretha Franklin Respect (Silver Respect) | C.A.R.E Award

As an activity to earn the Silver Respect badge, I researched Aretha Franklin's song "Respect". The song became an anthem for civil rights and feminism and originally written by a man named Otis Redding. You can find out the story behind her song through my presentation. This activity was signed by our girl maniakalani leader, Nyjah.

Multiplying: 10's, 100's, 1000's

This week in Math, we figured out the trick of multiplying in tens, hundreds, and thousands. We then created posters, to show our learning. We understand that 'x' means groups of, and that adding the zero's can also be another way to get us the answer in multiplying. After reading how you can do this, try answering the 3 bottom questions if you can understand.

Tech | Wood Work

This week Friday at tech, we had Wood Work with Mr. Grundy. We were finishing up our 8 designs and checking them, making sure each of them had a joint. Out of the 8 I created, I chose to be going to make the chest of draws. We then had to answer a few questions about our creation, like what is it for and why did we choose it. I would be using it to hide things in, like jewellery. Next week we might get up to making it.

Kiwi Sport

This week Wednesday we had our second session of our Kiwi Sport, Ki O Rahi with our coach Shaniece. This week we got a practise playing the game, but first learnt the rules of how to play and the names of the areas. It was called Golden Child. There were two teams which were Taniwha, and Ki Oma. One group on the outside would get into a line and be the runners. One at a time, the person at the front would have to run around the the circle of poles tapping each one. The group standing outside the green cones in side the poles, would have the goal of trying to get the current runner out by throwing a ball at the middle cylinder. The last runner would be the golden child, and where ever people were standing when they were out, could run when the golden child passed them.The roles would alternate after we had about 5 rounds. The winners weren't announced by Shaniece but we all had fun. Finishing up we said goodbye to our coach, and got a drink of water to cool down.

Kiwi Can

This week Wednesday we had Kiwi Can with Ms. Paige and Mr. Alapati in room 7. Our theme is positive relationships and our topic is positive communication. Our activity was called remote control. One of the kwii can leaders would say a word like on a remote and we had to do the action for it. The last person would had to sit down until there was one remaining. Our game was Chop Suey Salute. The master will stand in the view of the other players. A volunteer or someone chosen by the organiser of the game, will verse him/her in 3 rounds. Competitors will face each other and bow to begin the game. Organiser calls a number or mix of numbers that will represent a move/action like turning around for example. The quickest out of the two to complete the movement before the other, will earn 1 point for themselves. The first to 3 wins, which who will become the new master or stay as the master to verse the next player and so on and so forth. We then finished up our lesson by saying goodbye to the leaders.

Summer Learning Journey Assembly - Prizes & Winners

This Friday at Assembly, the Summer Learning Journey winners and participants were gifted prizes and certificates. The two team members from the programme to join us were Hazel and Sophie because Rachel couldn't make it. The Summer Learning Journey/Winter Learning Journey is a programme that schools spread from all around New Zealand, are able to take part in. Our school, Panmure Bridge School had the chance from 2018 to 2019 this year, to participate in another one of the programme's for the Summer Holidays. Top bloggers are presented with prizes, including the spot prize winners and people who participated received a Certificate. The 3rd place winner was me. I was excited to get my bag of sports items, toys, and sweets. The 2nd place winner was Mele. She won a bag of goods as well, and a cookie time pack. Finally, the first place winner was Alex. He won a bag just like us, a itunes card and an ipad mini. The spot prize winners were Florence, Chavda, and Marieta. They also won a bag of sports items, a laser tag voucher and a little more goods. As a whole school, Panmure Bridge had the most people to part take and finish so we were gifted a Pohutukawa tree to plant in our school. People who did well in the Summer Learning Journey won a small paper bag of things. After the assembly a few pictures were taken with the winners and the team. A big thank you to Hazel and Sophie for helping put together another wonderful Learning Journey.

Kiwi Can Reflection

This week Wednesday we had our first lesson of Kiwi Sport. Our leaders are Ms. Page, and Mr Alapati. Our theme is Positive Relationships and our topic is Positive communication. First we discussed the topic and our understanding of what we will be learning. Our first activity was up, down. We had to get into a circle and when the leader said down, we had to bob our heads down but when up was said we had to look up and stare at someone. This had to show honesty and be truthful if you were out. We then went outside to play our next activities, and for the first one we needed to get into small groups of three and stand in a circle. I worked with Sakina and Florence. We each numbered ourselves off like every other group, and once a leader called out a number, that person ran around the circle. The two partners built a tunnel with their arms and body, for the runner to go through. In the middle there were only 5 hoops to stand in, but if your runner was last to get in a hoop then the group was out. The final activity for the afternoon was a trailing game. Two partners had a leader, and someone holding onto their shoulders at the back. Each pair's leader was trying to tag the other person at the back of another pair. My pair was Florence, and it was quiet hot out so we got out in the first few rounds. This game showed communication because the person at the back had to signal when someone was coming and the leader had to keep an eye out. We finished up, and said goodbye to our kiwi can leaders and headed to the fale to spend the rest of our time before going home.

Kiwi Sport Reflection

This week Thursday we had our first session of Kiwi Sport. Our coach for this term is Shaniece and we are learning to play Ki O Rahi. As she introduced herself to the class, we watched a video called The Legend of Rahi. In the story, it tells us that the wife Te ara was first kidnapped and the husband went searching for her. The first activity we played was like rats and rabbits. The boys and girls were each a team. The boys were the Tanewha's, and the girls were Kio Mai. We played this so that we can warm up on the first day and get us running around. The next activity the girls had to put on a bib, and we played a short game of 8 pass. The teams had to try and pass the ball to one another at least 8 times. Our last game was a few rounds and we each had to run and use the ball in the middle as our game sport material. After a number was called, that amount of people ran. At the end we re-capped and it was a a hot day out so we got a drink and took a break.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi | Summary & Vocab

This week in Reading we looked at an online book about Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and created a google presentation in groups of 4 looking at summary and vocab slides. I worked with Florence, Jonathan, and Neveah to read each part of the story and write a summary of it, also as two new words from the text. The last slide, we showed the negatives and benefits, also as the top few slides were questions.

E-ako maths - Patterns and Relationships (Exploring patterns growing +1)

This week in Math we checked out a Math programme called 'e-ako maths'. In this game we can learn Math subjects and show our understanding of them. Here I have chosen to work on Patterns and Relationship, and my first activity I chose to do was exploring patterns that grow by one. An activities questions completed count as points, and now I earned myself 155 points.

Explanation Sketchnote

             
Our writing focus for this term is explanation. This week in pairs of two, we had to created a sketch-note about our understanding and learning of an explanation writing. I worked with Florence and it featured the structure and language features.We also looked at a writing about ants called "How ants find their way". We had to do tasks on the writing and answer some questions.

Role Models vs Heros

                       
Our topic for inquiry this term is relationships with others. In this activity we had to define the different between role models and heroes. This was a collaborative task so I had to work with my team group, Fui, Ellenora, Karlos, and Neveah. A role model is someone people look up to as inspiration and ideas. A hero is someone to us that we find special, these people have an effect on us and have some special talent or quality to them. One's hero could even be their dad. We ended up making a Venn Diagram like piece, and explained what both the separate names meant.

What is a Leader?

L.I: To define what is a leader and goals we set being senior students.
Our topic for Inquiry this term is relationships with others. Today we are learning about leaders and leadership. In our groups we had to create a D.L.O about what we think to be a leader means and our goals/responsibilities of being senior students/leaders. My understanding of a leader is that they are role models to others and do their best at everything. They take responsibility for their team or help others who are in need. Our finally D.L.O presents what a leader is, what a leader does, how we can be a good leader, and our goals as a leader.

What is Team? - Sketchnote

Today we had to create a sketch-note that brainstorms ideas about our understanding of Team. This was a group activity so I had to work with Fui, Neveah, Karlos, and Ellenora to come up with some ideas. The sketch-note was a google draw with shapes and symbols for us to create a board about the topic. A team means working together so that everyone can achieve success.

PBS C.A.R.E Values

This week for leadership week, we have been put into our team groups. Each group was given a piece of paper asking questions about what Confidence, Attitude, Respect, and Excellence and innovation means and looks like. We used a presentation to add our answers and use photos we took created by us showing the care values.
