Activity 3: Top Secret Street Art
In this activity we learnt about an artists from England, named Banksy. He creates street art, although not many people know about him. We took a deeper look into street art, which is seen a lot in New Zealand. The art can be telling a story, or really just be something to look at. Street artists in Christchurch are taking this chance to make the city look beautiful again after they experienced a massive earthquake causing destruction...So we looked at a whole bunch of Christchurch street art on this website, which had some amazing work! We had to choose two different paintings, and identify their differences and similarities.
Awesome post yet again Victoria - which is your favourite piece of art from those you've used? Did you enjoy the activity? Keep blogging...
ReplyDeleteHello Heather, I had a lot of fun with this activity and being able to look at a bunch of beautiful street art! I honestly love both murals but my favorite would be the Miss Universe NZ. The art strongly symbolizes a few things, specifically the lesson to be learnt from the extinction of the Huia due to our careless actions, and the pare kawakawa leaves Harlem Cruz (the women in the art) is wearing, which represent sadness and the loss of the bird. It's a lovely story, and holds a lot of meaning. Thank you for your comment!
DeleteKia ora Victoria,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing two pieces of street art that stood out to you. I have to say, you chose beautiful images! Which one is your favourite?
I really like how you identified under similarities the different aspects of nature in the art. I think that's what I really like about the images! I also really like how the images are from streets in Christchurch.
Do you do art in school? If so, do you enjoy it? I'd love to know :)

Hello Erica! We do have art in school, and I love it! Art is my favorite subject whether it's crafting, painting, or drawing something. It's a great way for me to express my creativity and just be unique. My favorite street art was the Miss Universe mural, because it holds a really meaningful and beautiful story behind it - I'm glad you liked them too. Thanks for the feedback!
DeleteKia ora Victoria,
DeleteThanks for getting back to me :)
I'm glad you enjoy art so much! Having an opportunity to be creative and unique is so important. Do you do much art at home as well? I really enjoy painting :)
Can you tell me about what the Miss Universe mural looked like, and the meaning behind it? It sounds awesome :)

Hello Victoria,
ReplyDeleteI am lost for words with this blog post! I really like how you added three facts about the differences and similarities. I also like how you added a ton of information about those pictures. Another thing I like is that you added a little blurb about Banksy at the bottom of your page. Even though you only had to do the activity you also wrote about the activity's backstory. I really like those picture because they are related to nature. Do you like nature? Overall, this is a phenomenal blog post! Keep up the astonishing work!

Hi Victoria,
ReplyDeleteI liked how you said that both murals show New Zealand culture and what they truly mean or symbolise. I also found it interesting that you said the mural on the right showcases the Miss Universe of New Zealand. Would you want to paint murals in the future?
