Winter Learning Journey - Tom and Vinicius

              Episode 1

Image result for tom and viniciusI think the first episode of Tom and Vinicius was about both of them following a different light and trying to catch it.But both of the lights head to the same hill. Then the two lights touched and then they mixed and form a bigger light. Then Tom and Vinicius touch it and then it became like dust and flew away in the air.

Winter Learning Journey - Stuart Farquhar

Let’s imagine that you were able to meet one of the following three athletes competing for New Zealand at the Rio Olympics: Lauren Boyle , Stuart Farquhar , Andrea Kilday In your blog tell us which one of these three athletes you would choose to meet and why.

 Stuart Farquhar

Out of the three athletes Lauren Boyle , Stuart Farquhar and Andrea Kilday I could only choose one even though I would rather meet all of them but I chose Stuart Farquhar. Stuart competes in the athletics (Javelin throwing) competition at the Olympics. I chose this athlete because he plays one of the Olympic sports that I would like to play. I also chose this athlete because I know a lot of questions that I could ask him already. This is why I would choose to meet Stuart Farquhar.

Winter Learning Journey - My made up sport

Imagine that you are on the Paralympic Committee and you have been asked to create one new sport to add to the competition for this year. Use your awesome imagination to design a brand new Paralympic sport. Please remember that some of the athletes will not be able to walk or run and others may be blind or deaf. On your blog, please write:

  1. The name of your sport,
  2. A brief description of how you play the sport, and
  3. Three rules for the sport

Name : The Golden child

Description : There are only 16 player split into 2 teams. There is one player taken away from each team and put in a special place. Each team member gets a turn to be the leader. But you would only have a little bit of time so this will include running. You have a map and you can use it or not. There are tall wide nails. You have to put your thumb on it and make sure it got your fingerprint on it  so the guards know that you have went in the right order and that you have done it. The first team to find their missing player you call them the golden child.

3 Rules : You can not miss a nail.

You cannot tell the other team where the nails are   and where their teammate is.

               Your team cannot split up.

Winter Learning Journey - Who would you choose to be your teammate

At the moment the most famous para-cycling team in New Zealand is comprised of two female athletes – Emma Foy and Laura Thompson. Emma is blind but Laura is not. Together they work as an amazing team. Imagine that you were asked to compete in a tandem cycling event and you had to choose one person to compete with. Who would it be? On your blog, tell us who you would compete with and why. If it was me, I would choose my son, Aronui because he’s pretty fast and very funny. He would make me laugh as we biked along and would be very supportive and encouraging! I know that I could trust him to be a good teammate. Who would you choose?’

                               Mine

If I had to choose somebody to be my teammate It would be my sister Tiava. I would chose my sister Tiava because she is motivating , fast and funny. I think me and Tiava would be a great team. But sometimes we won’t take things that serious . When I just feel like I can’t do it anymore or something like that Tiava would motivate me to keep trying and to try not to give up. That’s why I would choose my sister Tiava to be my teammate to compete with me in the tandem cycling event.

Winter Learning Journey - If I could travel to Rio de janeiro

If I could have the chance to fly all the way to Rio de janeiro and attend in one reintroduced Olympic games  that would be amazing because not everyone gets an opportunity like this. Another reason why it would be amazing because I would be able to actually see how they play sevens rugby.Because I already know how to play golf. Maybe I could even get a chance to interview them. That’s why I think it would be amazing to travel to Rio de janeiro.

Winter Learning Journey - Ancient Olympic sports

For this activity I had to pick one Ancient Olympic sport out of Six and explain what it’s about and why I chose it.

Out of the 6 Ancient Olympic sports Running,Wrestling,Boxing,Pankration,

Equestrian races and Pentathlon I chose Pentathlon.I chose Pentathlon because it includes 2 things that I like to do.Which is running and throwing.Running is something that I am really good at and because it gives me a really good exercise.I am also quite good at throwing but I just need to practice one my aim.

Winter Learning Journey - Eddie the Eagle summary

For this winter Learning Journey activity I had to watch a movie trailer called Eddie the eagle and right a summary.

In the trailer it’s about a boy from ever sence he was little wanting to become an Olympic athlete. But his parents would tell him he couldn’t or he can’t.Not only his parents would tell him that also other people. He would try and sometimes fail. But that didn’t mean that he was going to give up.He kept trying and trying. He got some help and learnt more about what you have to do then started to be trained.Until one day it finally happened. He competed.

I think what the trailer was trying to say is never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something you really want to do.Just keep trying and don’t let anyone get you down. Don’t let anyone one ruin your dreams.

Winter Learning Journey - Milo of Kroton 3 facts

Winter Learning Journey - Five questions I would ask Marjorie Gestring

                 My Five questions

Question 1 - Why did you want to Springboard dive?

Question 2 - Did somebody inspire you if so who?

Question 3 - How did you learn to Springboard dive?

Question 4 - Did anyone else in your family do this?

Question 5 - Have you ever thought of competing in
another Olympic game If so which?

Winter learning Journey - Girls are NOT allowed

            Girls are NOT allowed

During the ancient Olympic games only Men were allowed to compete in the events but Women were not.In fact, Women were often forbidden for even watching the games. In your opinion,is this a fair rule? Why? or Why not? On your blog please tell us what you think
about this interesting rule.

In my opinion I think this is not fair and I say this because not all boys are brave or strong and because boys don’t know all the different abilities girls have that can be useful.I don’t know If the Men did or did not realized that if the girls wanted to compete in the Olympic games they could have just been trained by the Men. If girls could actually watch the Olympic games they might learn from what the Boys do when the are playing. If you compare Girls to boys there are not much differences between us but like our gender and maybe looks and personality and what we sound like but other then that we are pretty much almost the same so I don’t understand why girls were not allowed to compete in the Olympic games .

Maori language week / Measure ment

Screenshot 2016-07-08 at 11.47.04 AM.png
L.I : I was learning how to draw a Rhombus to put 5 maori words that I had to learn for Maori language week.

My 5 Maori words are :

  • Pepa        (Paper)
  • Kia ora    (Hello)
  • Rahina     (Monday)
  • Ratu         (Tuesday)
  • Rakuaine  (Ruler)

I think it is a good idea to learn words from another culture because if somebody in another culture starts to speak to you in their language you don’t have to be lost in their words and not understand you could just understand and speak in their language back.

Orienteering

L.I : I was learning how to read a map to help me find the controls.

This term I learnt Orienteering. On the map there was a code of numbers and letters.Beside each letter on the map there was a clue to help me find the control. We had to have the map pointing North

Self Reflection :

l think I did quite well because only sometimes I would use the map correctly. At other times I would use help from my teacher or the 2 instructors or from my classmates. But I’m okay because next year I think I will get better and start to understand how to read a map to help me find the controls.
