In this activity we learnt about an artists from England, named Banksy. He creates street art, although not many people know about him. We took a deeper look into street art, which is seen a lot in New Zealand. The art can be telling a story, or really just be something to look at. Street artists in Christchurch are taking this chance to make the city look beautiful again after they experienced a massive earthquake causing destruction...So we looked at a whole bunch of Christchurch street art on this website, which had some amazing work! We had to choose two different paintings, and identify their differences and similarities.

Activity 2: Try Your Own Tapa
Above is my Tapa design. It's looks very simple, but definitely represents quite a few things important to me. In the middle is a cross, symbolizing my pacific culture, Tonga. But the stripes going across it come from the American flag, which is also part of who I am. The 7 stars count the people in my family -The two biggest stars being my parents, and the 5 small stars as me and my siblings. The stars repeat and creates a pattern through out my Tapa like the bear icon, which is very common in most designs. I'm a Virgo (Zodiac), and the bear is my animal sign. The basic layout of my Tapa (the two boarders and the 9 squares covering the face) come from many other designs as well.
In this activity we looked at a Samoan artist who lives in New Zealand, named Fatu Feu'u. He is a great artist, known for creating paintings, sculptures, pottery, prints, and glass work. His work is influenced by traditional Tapa cloth patterns, tattoo's, weavings, carvings, and mask designs. But a lot of pacific cultures have their own version of "Tapa", and we looked more into this by visiting a few sites. The task was to create our very own Tapa design, whether it be on paper or online! You can read more about what I created above. I really enjoyed this activity because I get to use and show off my digital art skills again, but I also really like how mine turned out.

Activity 1: Fashion forward
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally I really like their clothing brand name a lot, and it has helped create a very successful business so I think they shouldn't change it. Changing their name before definitely brang a lot of attention, but I find their 'new' name a lot more interesting. It has more meaning, and is a great way to represent their brand and to be acknowledging of those 27 people who supported their business through out, and helped their label.
In this activity we looked at a New Zealand fashion label called "Twenty-Seven Names". The founders of the business had been friends since primary school; Rachel Easting and Anjali Burnett. We also looked at an article about how some of New Zealand's famous brands got their names from, including "Twenty-Seven Names". We were asked to share how they got their name and whether we think it's a good name for them and if not, what they should change it to. The top paragraph is backstory on "Twenty-Seven Names" and the bottom half is my opinion. I like their name, and don't any better suggestions for them.

Activity 3: Putting Our Heads Together
For this activity we were asked imagine John Kirwan, Mike King, and Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge called us up to ask to design a poster for their organisation which is "Heads Together". They are encouraging others to get involved with Mental Health, and I think that this is a really good thing. To make this poster more realistic, I used only some inspiration from their website being the logo, quotes, and "About" bar. Go to their site here - About | Heads Together

Activity 2: iMoko
For this activity we looked at iMOKO which is a digital programme where people living in communities who don't have any available doctors, can deal with their health issues to doctors in Kaitaia. The initiative is improving health and well-being of people, which is really helpful. We were then asked to share some ways what we, or the people in our family do to stay healthy. I've created bullet point poster of the 4 main different things I do for my health and well-being.

Activity 1: Medical Mavericks
For this activity we were asked to look at a list of All Nobel Prize winners and choose one to read about. James Peebles interested me because he was in the most recent list of 2019 for physics. After learning a bit more about this person, we then had to talk about them in 5 - 10 sentences. I wrote 7 sentences about him including who he was, what he did, and what so special about him. You can read about James Peebles above in the poster, including a picture w/ proper attributions.

Activity 2: Celebrating Diversity
For this activity, we looked at a few indigenous communities being Ainu people, Australian Aboriginal People, The Inuit People, Papua People, and the Maya People. The two most interesting to me were Papau New Guinea and the Inuit Nunangat. We had to write at-least two interesting facts we learnt about both choices. I did a lot of research about what is happening with these two Indigenous Communities, and the issues.

Activity 1: Guiding Principles
For this first day 4 activity we looked at something called a Whakatauki, which is the way Maori (like many other cultures) explain their feelings or describe a specific thing using these sayings, proverbs, and metaphors. Knowing this, we looked at a few examples of some Whakatauki and chose one that had meaning to us. We created a simple poster, and we had to include a picture/drawing. I chose this Whakatauki because it's inspiring and motivating in a poetic way.

Activity 3: Worth her Weight in Gold
For this activity we created Brochures about a country that is important to you, and include some tips and what to see/do. This activity took quite long create the design for the brochure and finding the best pictures and information. I chose Tonga because that is my culture although I have never been there before. Some information possibly incorrect, sorry!

Activity 2: What’s in a Name?
This next Summer Learning Journey activity was really creative, and I was excited to share the name I would possibly change my name to if I could and why. I got a bit creative with my DLO, and created the background as a sky because it correlates to my name. I would change my name to "Hevani" which is Tongan for Heaven. And this was almost my first name, until it became my middle. I really like my name because it's easy to pronounce but I also really appreciate the meaning behind Hevani.

Activity 1: Making a Racket
For this Summer Learning Journey activity, we had to watch these two videos on Serena and Venus Williams speaking about equal pay. These two women are amazing athletes and some of the best tennis players. What I would like to know more about is how this is affecting players in other sports, and the three things I learnt from the videos is that...
1. Venus, Serena, and many other female athletes seek for equal pay when it comes to tennis: but others think to get this they would have to play the same sets or play against male players as well.
2. They both play extreme games and conquer great titles, proving that they're as capable as men.
3. The women think that endorsement deals should be more equal and they would like both women and men advocating and supporting it (meaning signing endorsement deals as way of making money off the court; like players in ad's showing their approval of said product).

Tourist Allowance | Activity 3 (Day 4) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 4
I agree but disagree with this. I think someones mistakes shouldn't affect another persons rights but the change of the Machu Picchu is massive and the tourists still wouldn't get the same enjoyment of the place as they could be if it wasn't how it looks currently. I think with more time it may be able to gain a few characteristics of it's real form. In conclusion I am leaning more to agreeing with this only slightly.
This was Activity 3 of Day 4 for Week 4 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this Activity I had to say if weather I agree or not and my thoughts on the governments decisions to restrict the number of visitors to Machu Picchu since the past years tourists have made the trek to it. I both disagree and agree with this movement in different ways.

Plastic Bag Free | Activity 2 (Day 4) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 4
Tiava's Thoughts in Summary -
She supports Countdown's decision because they are helping reduce the amount of plastic bags entering places they shouldn't be and polluting it or killing animals.
This was Activity 2 for Day 4 of Week 4 in the Summer Learning Journey. For this Activity I had to ask one family member or friend of what they think about Countdown going plastic bag free and stop using them. I asked my sister Tiava which I agree with her thoughts and had the same opinion.

Campaign Slogan | Activity 1 (Day 4) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 4
Sea the effect
This was Activity 1 of Day 4 for Week 4 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this Activity I had to pick one of the variety of campaigns by Forest & Bird, and write a slogan for it. A slogan is a advertising phrase for a brand or such. I chose "Protect our Penguins" as a campaign and the slogan I made up was "Sea the effect". This was because penguins are animals who live near sea and their were many causes that make them endangered so people need to think about how it will effect the penguins.

Cloud Shapes | Activity 3 (Day 4) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 3
In this picture I see a cloud in the form of a bunny. I liked this picture the most because I really like bunnies and it's the most complicated things out of the three to get a photo of. Even though the shape of the bunny is distinct, you can still tell what it is. I also really like bunnies. If you are having trouble seeing this bunny here are a few points to look at. The highest part of the cloud are the two ears followed on below by the bunnies head. You can then see the upper half of the bunny like it's hands and body shape.
This was Activity 3 for Day 4 of Week 3 in the Summer Learning Journey programme. For this Activity I had to look at three pictures of cool shapes that clouds have made. Then I had to picked cloud picture 1 and write about what it is, what picture number, and a description about it in detail.

The Seven Sisters Summary (Matariki) | Activity 2 (Day 4) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 3
This story depicts a telling of the Seven stars of Matariki and their story. Long ago, a few brothers came across 7 beautiful women who they would Mary for themselves. One brother did not fall for these suspicious women's beauty and realised something his brothers didn't, they were fairies. Later he's curiosity was proved right after catching them one day, discuss a plan to starve his brothers after they left the village and their husbands. After telling what had happened, he gained help from his brothers to get rid of them and captured them in their bird for with nets. He finally took them away far in the heavens and night sky where the women stayed and their beauty would only shine once a winter solstice.
This was Activity 2 of Day 4 for Week 3 of the Summer Learning Journey programme. For this Activity to be completed, I had to summarise the story book of the Seven Sisters in 6 to 8 sentences. I had to first watch a clip about a lady reading her book about it so I could summarise my short story off of what she had said. I completed my summary of 6 sentences.

Acrostic Poem | Activity 1 (Day 4) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 3
L - Lighting the Skies with the colours of the Northern Light.
I - Innocent Smiles,
G - Glowing Stars in the night,
H - Hearts of love.
T - This Day will last forever when,
S - Skies are bright, with the Northern Light.
This was Activity 1 for Day 4 of Week 3 for the Summer Learning Journey. To complete this Activity I had to create an acrostic poem about the Northern lights using the word "LIGHTS". This means I had to find a word or sentence for each letter but beginning with that same letter.

Short Selfie Story | Activity 3 (Day 4) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 2
Short Story: I think this girl is standing on a building in a country of USA taking a selfie of her in front of a town. I think she was so fascinated of the great view that you could see everything and took a photo of it. She must have been very happy to be there that she took a picture of her being able to experience it. I also think she is in the United States because if you look closely in the back you are able to see The Rainbow Bridge. She stood their so the camera could get a higher and defined view of wheres she was. At the time I think she was walking around taking a photo of other things. I even think she could have been on a tour or it was just a visit or trip being there. This girl stopped to get a selfie to remember her time at that place.
This was Activity 3 of Day 4 of Week 2 in Summer Learning Journey. In this photo I had to choose out of three selfies to explain in a short story what was going on in the picture. I had to include where they were at, what they were doing at the time, and just what was happening. I chose picture three because it looked very interesting. To earn full points the story had to be 8-10 complete sentences which I only did 8.

Geothermal Pool Names | Activity 2 (Day 4) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 2
1) Toxic Green
2) Nature's Juice*
3) Grape Goop
For activity 2 of day 4 for Week 2 in Summer Learning Journey, I had to list three to five creative names for a neon green pool of water called Devil's Bath since over years people have suggested for it to have a new name. Choosing our favourite name, we had to use a star next to the name. Out of the three I listed I chose Nature Juice because it was representative of the green and was a liquid substance like juice.
