Activity 3: Putting Our Heads Together

For this activity we were asked imagine John Kirwan, Mike King, and Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge called us up to ask to design a poster for their organisation which is "Heads Together". They are encouraging others to get involved with Mental Health, and I think that this is a really good thing. To make this poster more realistic, I used only some inspiration from their website being the logo, quotes, and "About" bar. Go to their site here - About | Heads Together

Activity 3: Wise Words

For this activity, we were asked to identify a role model in our life and ask them to share a piece of advice with us. This is something I quoted from my mother when I asked her for some wise words. She always says things like this to me and my siblings, and I always appreciate the different things she says. It's very inspirational and gives me motivation, so I decided to create a poster with it as well.

Hover-bike Advertisement

This week I worked collaboratively with Victoria, Chavda, Nyjah and Fui to make a advertisement. For the challenge this week we had the choice of either making a advertisement of one of the RWC merchandise, or make an advertisement of a hover bike. We chose to make a hover bike advertisement. We added some things that the hover bike can do and why you should get it.

D.A.R.E Impact Message (Drugs and Alcohol Awareness)

In class we are focusing on D.A.R.E programme, and we are learning about Drugs and Alcohol. For this reason, we had Constable Cyrus come and talk to us about the affects of it and the different types there are. I was really surprised and shocked at the proof images of what could happen taking drugs and drinking. After taking in all this information, we all made a poster about Drugs and Alcohol awareness using our new knowledge to help us make it very innovative and grasping posters. It's very important we don't do drugs and alcohol underage, as they can mess with our underage bodies and cause problems. Say No to Drugs and Alcohol. (For a Better Future)

Maori | Rētihi Poster

This week we had Maori with Ms. Whaea Odie. Today we watched a clip about a myth story of how the south of New Zealand came to be with animated movements. It was really interesting to watch and entertaining of the graphics and motions on the screen. Then we had to go and find a partner and create a poster about a food/s. To do that, Ms. Whaea Odie gave the partners a number, then they had to go and find the food that was numbered the same number as them. My partner was Alayah, and we were given number six which was lettuce and beetroot. Our poster was about lettuce. It all had to be written in maori and not much english words. The photo we used on our poster was labelled for re-use, and majority of the poster is english, but the definition of lettuce is written in maori though.  Lettuce in maori is Rētihi. Alayah and I were able to find out more about lettuce as we re-searched to fill out our poster.

Addition Poster

L.I: To create a poster on addition showing Place Value and Tidy Numbers Strategy. This week for Math everyone had to choose 4 subjects or operations, and a D.L.O format to make it under. Everyone decided to do the 4 operations - Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division. Depending on which one we were doing, our teacher chose what we would have to teach from that subject. Once a week we would have to complete one and link it on a sheet. This week I have decided to do addition on a poster. For addition we had to show place value and Tidy Numbers. After finishing our D.L.O about the operations, we could blog it and plan our work for next week.

Paikea Poster | Maori

This week Wednesday we had a session of maori with Whaea Odie. This week we made a poster about Paikea since we learnt about it a few weeks ago. First our Whaea Odie told us the story of The Clay women with visual pictures of the pages in the book. It was about how humans in the Maori traditions were created since there were already gods. The poster was intended for people who don't know about Paikea and etc to find out about it. Before going off and creating our own posters, we talked about examples of what we could include in our post and words to do with Paikea. In my poster I included a short description about Paikea and drew a whale with a person on it resembling tahuhu and the book about Paikea. We had to share our poster with Whaea Odie once we were done.

Emotive Language | Poster

L.I: To write informative but emotive paragraphs.
This week for writing we are learning about emotive language in persuasive texts. It is used to influence people and the words usually make you feel something about the topic. We looked at two texts to tell which is emotive and find the specific words that make it emotive. Then we had to change a few sentences around to make them emotive and fill out a template creating our own non emotive sentence, and making an emotive version of the sentence too. To show our understanding and learning about emotive language, we had to make a poster about it and explain techniques and information for it. I also included a words from in informative and emotive that relate to the word and other words that also relate and have something to do with the word as well.

Commonwealth Games Poster

LI: To create a DLO showing information about the Commonwealth games. This week for inquiry we had to make a DLO about the Commonwealth games. First we had to find information about the Commonwealth games. We needed to use our smart searching skills to find out information. The things that we had to find was a map of where the Commonwealth games is, how far it is from Panmure Bridge school, how many countries are competing, the motto and logo for this years game, information on 3 New Zealand medallists, who the 3 medallists are, what sports they do, what was their winning time and who Sophie Pascoe is. For the DLO we decided to do a google draw. For the google draw we had to make sure our print design rules were good. The print design rules are text, colour, composition and layout. We had to show our DLO to Mr. Wong, so he could check if the print design rules were good. I think that the LS1 minute to win it Olympics is really fun because we get to learn new minute to win it activities every week this term.

Self-Monitoring Poster

L.I: To monitor our understanding of a text by ourselves.
This week for reading we had to create a poster that tells you about Self-Monitoring. We had to discuss over with our neighbours next to us sitting on the matt what it means. Then we had to watch a video that gives a full explanation of what self-monitoring is. Then we had to self-monitor ourselves with a book that we read. My group read the book - water worries. The groups learnt the different self-monitoring fix up strategies that you can do to help you when you are in that situation. We had to get into buddies from our group and say aloud the words we don't understand and the same with the other buddy. Our job was to create a poster that explains self-monitoring and what we know about it. In the poster we had to include 3 examples we got stuck in the book, and put what the word was, why you didn't know it, what strategy helped you understand it, and what it means after learning it. The three words I got stuck on were - Groundwater, Irrigation, and Aquifers. Even though I could pronounce them didn't mean I knew them. I also list the fix up strategies we learnt on the side of that poster. Self-monitoring means to be able to say yourself, what your understanding is of a word if you don't know it then being able to correct it using strategies.

Prior Knowledge Poster

L.I: To activate prior knowledge about a topic before reading.
This week for reading, we had to create a poster that explains about Prior Knowledge. I created my poster on a google drawing. I talk about - what prior knowledge is, how can we do it, how does it help us, and when can use prior knowledge. I also included a picture which relates to the topic. Last year, we created slides that talk about different reading strategies, and we also talked about all the strategies before creating the actual DLO. I think this strategy is very easy to use because we are using the information we already know to get a better understand and to connect with the subject. Before our creating we did learning. We talked about what the census is without reading any article, site or book and used prior knowledge by sharing our information we know about it. We then went on a site that talks about the census and the information you need to know about so we could find if we were right. All the information except from 1 or 2, we got right and we had evidence to prove it.

Inferring poster & updated version of modelling book

L.I: To use a range of comprehension strategies to go deeper into a text.
This week for reading, we had to carry on with our reading strategy modelling book. I looked through it and changed a few things around so you are now looking at the updated version of my inferring modelling book. I alo added another slide to my google presentation and made it was a steps poster. I added my own character that I made using shapes and I inserted an image of my inferring steps poster and made it a link so that it will take you took the actual google doc I made it on so you can take a closer look at it. For my poster I put some things you need to find if you are inferring a character and things you need to find if you are inferring a setting. I also added an image to go with the poster that I made. Then after I finished my poster I took a screen shot of it and just put it in into my modelling book.

Possum Poster

L.I: to separate fact from opinion.
L.I: to identify the main ideas in a text.
Today for reading we made posters about possums showing if we would rather keep them or not and why. I made google draw and inserted some pictures to go with it. I think that possums should be killed because they are eating our native plants and animals and they are able to spread diseases. I learnt this by researching about possums and found pictures online which were labeled for reuse and put them on. During the task I learnt a lot of facts about possums like how there are about 30 million of them in New Zealand.
