Tech (Wood Work)


This week in tech for wood work with Mr. Grundy at Tamaki College, the year 7's continued making their designs. Everyone is on to sawing the wood by now, and some people are making their joints. I measured the size of the cut so that my jointed piece could fit, then I sawed down the sides before chiselling out the middle. My joint fits, but it is a little loose on the sides. Next week I would like to get at least the both wall/sides of my bird house design done.

Blog Post Data Analysis


In Maths we took a look at the amount of blog posts we published each month from the year we started blogging to this current year. Then we analysed that information and made it into a statistical information graph. Everyone found their average amount of blog posts per year, and a statement for why there was more or less posts done. I found it interesting that every year I improved and each year the total amount of blog posts grew. My goal for 2019 is to reach 500 posts this year. I already have over 1000, 1025 to be specific and if I accomplished this I would have 1525.

Kiwi Can

This week in Kiwi Can, we learnt about co-operation and positive relationships. The two games we played were A's and B's, and Magic Shoes. We also discussed a little about praise, negotiating, and communication. First up was our energiser, which we played out on the field outside. Everyone chose an A person, which was someone in the class and a B person too without letting anyone who you picked for each round. The point of the game is to stay as close to whoever your A person is without making it too obvious, and stay as far as your B person as you can. We came back inside, sitting in 4 rows. Next was our activity which was Magic Shoes. Our teams were the class-mates sitting in the same line as us. This was also another game played outside. We each had to get into a line behind the a cone with our team and someone at the front would start with the Magic Shoes. The point of this game was to some how get everyone across to the other side of the row of cones without their feet touching the floor as they hadn't got the magic shoes yet. After everyone managed to get across, we would sit on the other side. This was a difficult meaning that we had to carry each other. The last thing we did was score up our points, which this week we did quite well but we are still yet to reach a maximum 50.

D.A.R.E Impact Message (Drugs and Alcohol Awareness)


In class we are focusing on D.A.R.E programme, and we are learning about Drugs and Alcohol. For this reason, we had Constable Cyrus come and talk to us about the affects of it and the different types there are. I was really surprised and shocked at the proof images of what could happen taking drugs and drinking. After taking in all this information, we all made a poster about Drugs and Alcohol awareness using our new knowledge to help us make it very innovative and grasping posters. It's very important we don't do drugs and alcohol underage, as they can mess with our underage bodies and cause problems. Say No to Drugs and Alcohol. (For a Better Future)

Stretching Sentences


This week in Writing we are learning to stretch our sentences, a new strategy we can use to write better and more detailed sentences. To do this, we can add the 5 w's into short simple sentences to stretch them out. Then we created posters about our learning, to help remind us and others about Stretching Sentences. My example used in my poster began as a basic sentence of "Cinderella was cleaning".

Kiwi Sport | Ki O Rahi

This week Thursday we had Kiwi Sport out on the fields with Shaniece. We got a chance to play a real game of Ki O Rahi and use our skills we learnt from the past few sessions to help us go about this properly. Everyone was chosen into a team of either Taniwha or Ki O Ma. Depending on your team name, you were given either a red or yellow rippa belt and tags. We started the game with one team spread out around the red cones. The team in the middle had a goal to hit the stand in the middle to earn them points. However if the other team around the cones were to get the ball, they could run around the circle touching as much of the T posts as they can. If one of their tags were ripped off by the other team, then the ball had to be passed to another team-mate of that person. This was really fun being able to play the real game, and playing around with the tags this week. Next week is our last week with Shaniece and playing Ki O Rahi.

Wild Boy: Brando Yelavich

This week for reading we did another session of reciprocal reading in our groups. The book we read this week was called Wild boy, about a young man named Brando Yelavich. He wanted to change his life as he was depressed from struggling with ADHD and Dyslexia. After inspiration and preparing, he was set on being an adventurist of the wild. He had a goal to cross the coastline of New Zealand which he was able to achieve, and he was also able to raise over 10,000 dollars. He has multiple books about his journeys and life style that all talk about him.

Writing Self Evaluation


Is plastic the best option?

Have you ever thrown out a piece of plastic without thinking about it? You might not have known how effective plastic is to the environment and waterways. Not only plastic bags, but plastic bottles as well. Things like this take 400 years just to break down! It’s killing our marine animals and polluting the environment.

The earth is full of pollution, and a big percent of it is plastic waste. This is why we need to reduce the amount of plastic we use in our daily life to help save our planet. This could be done by replacing them with reusable items instead. A materialed bag instead of a plastic bag, and a hard bottle instead of a plastic bottle. Slowly, this could help decrease the amount of landfill spreading and adding in our countries.

Although plastic is very unhealthy for the air, marine animals, and land, it is a useful item. Sometimes these items even could be re-used another time. Plastic bag help us carry any items we bought from the store and sometimes we decided to buy a plastic bottle. But the bottle you bought could even cost more than are-usable one, and the plastic bag you got wouldn’t help you bag your items the next time you go shopping.

Plastic bottles and bags, aren’t the best choice but still are still an option. You could help care for the planet just by using a single item that could last a long while. Next time you see a bit of plastic, pick it up before it gets anywhere it shouldn’t need to be. Care for the planet.

With a partner, we marked our easstle sample with the LS2 writing rubric. I worked with Nyjah to rate our explanations for the Punctuation, Vocab, Organisation, Sentence Structure, Structure and Language, and Ideas used in them. We also went into detail by explaining our answers with self check and partner check. To summarise the self evaluation I gave myself R4 in Punctuation, R3 in Vocab, R4 in Organisation, R4 in Sentence Structure, R4 in Structure and Language, and R4 in Ideas.

Read Theory


This morning, the class played 15 minutes of Read Theory. Here is one of the stories I read, about fruits. There were only a few questions as I continued on with grade 2/3. I got each of them correct, but for next time I think I should focus on the questions much more.

Kiwi Sport | Ki O Rahi

This week in Kiwi Can we had Ki O Rahi again with Shaniece. Today we were learning how to kick the key, for the Taniwha's team. Then we played Golden child Ki O Rahi, but next week Shaniece told us we are going to be playing a real game of Ki O Rahi. The class was halved into two teams, and we were first the taggers. Someone from the other team would be a runner, and go around the circle touching each of the T's with the ball. The team in the middle has a goal to hit the stand in the middle to get the runner out. After some games we finished up, but each team did great. It was really hot out but I enjoyed playing this game. We have been learning each parts of the set up of the game, and new skills for each of the rolls in the game.

Kiwi Can

This week Wednesday we had Kiwi Can with Mrs. Paige and Mr. Alapati. Our theme is positive relationships and our topic is positive communication. Our focus is active listening and we talked about praise. Our energiser was hoop tug of war, which we had to get into 4 teams for. I was with Alice, Ellenora, Florence, Nyjah, Neveah, Pua, and Te Ponamu. One person from each team competed against one person from the other team and every team had their own cone to touch. Everybody put on hand on the hoop and the target was to pull to the cone. First person from the team to touch it, won. This was very exciting and everybody was cheering for their team-mate. Next we came back to the mat and talked about what we were learning about today. Our last thing we did was our game, which was kick ball. We each got into half and half teams and we would alternate the rolls. This was played out on the field. Someone would kick the ball and tried to run across the field without the team tagging them with that ball. You could run back if someone else through the ball as well. At the end of the games, we came back inside room 7 and did the points. We had a total of 49 as our score.
