Adding Fractions with Different Denominators

L.I: To add and subtract fractions with unlike and like denominators.
This week for maths we learnt to add fractions that have different denominators. Then we had to create a D.L.O to show our learning on how to do it. I used a google slide and my problem I chose was 2/5 + 4/6. For my problem, you multiply 2/5 by 6 and 4/6 by 5. The denominator would be 30 and the numerator was 32 by adding the two multiplyed numerators.

Visualisating and Questioning

L.I: To visualise and question scenes in a book.
This week for reading we were learning how to do visualising and questioning which are the two reading strategys we haven't done yet. Visualising is using describing words to create a picture in your head of what it's like. Questioning is to think about you're understanding of a book and to question things you don't know so you can try to later on find it out and gain better understanding. To show our learning we had to pick a single book and make a copy of a document. On the document was a template with Book title, Scene location, Question, Answer (if any), Answer Location, and show our visualising of the scene. We had to fill in each box and when we were done, we could grab a new book and work on the next template. Each group was given a specific mark to do but you could do more if you would like. I completed three of the templates.

Narrative Planner | Manaiakalani Film Festival

L.I: To write a quick narrative for the Manaiakalani Film Festival.
This week for writing we had to write a narrative planner based on the LS1 mini olympics for the Manaiakalani Film Festival. To get an idea of what it would be like, we watched a parody video. Then we got into groups of three. I worked with Farzana, and Sandra. Then the groups made a copy of a google doc narrative planner. Then they written down as a group how they think the film would be and how it would play out, including dialogue. On the doc was a template where we had to write the title, orientation, problem, events, and the solution of the film (narrative). On the side we wrote in a basic sentence what it would be about then on the other side write it in more detail. The narrative also had to be atleast funny because it is trying to entertain other people. We had a short time to work on it but we were able to finish most of it as every member in the group helped. Our planner doesn't included the dialogue but the complete narrative does which is the D.L.O used in this post. In the end one groups narrative writing will be pick as the one used in the film.

Kiwi Sport | Swimming

This week for kiwisport we are learning to swim at the YMCA Panmure Lagoon Pools for 30 minutes. The year 6's got changed and then some worked with different coaches. My coach was Cameron. He was also teaching me with Sandra, Matthew, and Mojtaba. First we learnt how to get into a moving river or such. This was called pin where we stood up on the wall, and took a big step out into the water but bend the legs, then jump in. Everyone did good because it was pretty easy, but I took a smaller step than everyone else. Next we learnt the basics of how to get into the water. First we sat down on the wall and put out hands out on the side. Then we had to push up and slowly turn our body half way into the water with out hands still on the wall. Once we were in the water, we stood on the platform and did swimming with circle arms. Everyone knew how to do this so it was pretty easy. After we did that, we went off the platform again and did a different type of swimming using our hands. The cycle was thumbs up, thumbs down, little circles but very fast. We had to go forward off the platform and then slowly float on our backs. We couldn't kick our feet. In my opinion it was a little hard so that is why I failed at it a little. Then Cameron chucked two rings in the water and two people had to go find one at a time but it wasn't a race. First it was Sandra and Matthew, then Mojtaba and I. I was able to find my ring each time. After that we hoped out and got changed then headed back on the bus to go back to school.

What is Media? | Smart Media

This week for cybersmart we have been learning about smart media, and what media is. Media is using social apps, websites, devices, or any other to connnect with others or discorver more information about a specific category or a topic you want to learn about. Media can be technology like phones, computers, ipads and other gadgets or devices. It is everywhere and used all the time. Media can even be billboards, notices, posters, newspapers, almost anything that contains info or such is a media. Media is everywhere, it can be public, social, online and more too. Some media that I consume everyday could be like google docs, sheets, slides, and draws for when I might be doing work or putting a link on the must do task list. I also go on blogger which is where I post my work i've completed. I go on youtube aswell to watch videos or listen to music, I also play a few video games on my phone or chromebook.

Multiplying Fractions | Animation (3/5 x 10)

L.I: Find fractions of whole number amounts using multiplication and division.
This week for Math we learnt how to multiply fractions. To multiply fractions you don't change or touch the denominator. You multiply the amount you have of the fractions with the multiply to get the answer. Say if it was 45/5, that would be the improper answer. The proper answer would be 9 wholes. To show our learning we had to create an animation showing how to multiply with a fraction. The problem I decided to pick 3/5 x 10. For the animation I used shapes, arrows, lines to show what was going on, and text to tell in a short description what was going on. The answer to my problem was 30/5 but the improper fractions was 6 wholes.

Duffy Theatre Performance

On the first day back at school, LS1 and a few other classes went to the hall to watch a Duffy theater performance. The act was called the cloakroom bully and the actors were Melanie, Chantell and Duffy. In the beginning they sang the Duffy song and everyone sang along with them doing the sign language actions. In the first part Chantell and Duffy were practicing football for the grand finals. Melanie walked through and showed off a few of her skills. Duffy was really impressed and tried to introduce himself and start up a conversation. Chantell was jealous and interrupted to get Duffy back. When Duffy wasn't around, Chantell was being very rude and mean to Melanie, and called her names. At lunch everyone was searching through their bags to get their lunch, but Chantell didn't have one. Chantell seen Melanie pull out her lunchbox with her lunch inside. Chantell forced Melanie to give it up and so she did. Inside was a Vegemite and cheese sandwich but Chantell still had it.  In the next scene Duffy was wondering around, with butterflies in his stomach because he was so nervous for the grand finals. Then he heard a noise come from in the bathroom, he didn't know if he should check it out or go to practice. Neither did he know what the noise was, but then he listened closer and it was someone crying. From help from the audience, he decided to check the noise out, hoping that coach would understand. Just then, Melanie came out the bathroom crying, and Duffy asked what was wrong. She explained to him that someone was taking their lunch everyday, calling them names all the time, and even making mean faces too. Duffy thought about it and concluded that this was a bully. The last thing Duffy wanted to know was their name. Melanie was too scared to let him know that it was his best friend Chantell, so she just called her the Cloakroom bully. In class Melanie was late and of course Chantell mocked her for it. Later on Duffy gave her a book called The Halloween Bully for her to read. She did and she was hooked on it. It was about a Skeleton who was bullied by a ghost. Melanie also decided to pass the book on to Chantell. After Chantell read it, she decided to say sorry to Melanie for all that she did and in the end, Melanie joined the Football team to play in the Grand Finals with them.

Blog Commenting

Today I commented on Farzana's blog. I commented on her Dialogue & Monologue blog post. I thought her work was great. I've created a similar blog post about dialogue and monologue too.I liked the description of the scene in the first slide and also the short summart of the video that she watched in the blurb. I really enjoyed reading the conversations between them and their thoughts if they were alone. I was curious and asked Farzana if it was somehow difficult to think about what two people might say in a scene or what someone might think.

LS1 Quiz Game Show | Sculpting, Drawing, Questioning

This term for inquiry LS1 has been learning about body systems, MRS GREN, and living organisms. Today was our quiz and also the last day of school. Throughout the term the groups have been working hard and earning credits so that later on we could use them to buy questions or more for the quiz. There were 3 rounds and 6 games in each one. In the first week we were focusing on MRS GREN and what living organisms are. MRS GREN is the 7 life processes that every living organism does which stand for Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, and Nutrition. In the next couple of weeks, we were focusing on the sensitivity which is the nervous system. In the next week we were focusing on nutrition which was the digestive system. Moving on we worked on respiration which also the circulatory system. Then we made a D.L.O with our groups proving that one organism is living by showing how it follows the 7 life processes and then putting it all in a video and presenting it to the whole class. In the last week the groups started using credits until Friday for the big quiz which was today. The winning group in the end was the wolves with 6 point and we came second with 4. Our prize was chocolate.

ASB Getwise

This week Thursday we had someone from ASB getwise and teach us about how we can save and spend our money wisely. The person who came in to teach us was named Jayden. First he wrote out cash and we found words to suit in for each letter that are about money. C was for clear which is being specific about exactly what you want and making sure that the goal is clear. A was for action which means actually doing things to earn the money and taking action with the goal to get there. S was for save which is self explanatory and being responsible with how you save your money to get the amount you need for your goal. Lastly H was for how long which is how long it takes you to get the money and if you are not getting the amount you want then you can try the save process differently. We also did something where Jayden picked 2 volunteers from class and they got a flipbook that was about how much money they get per week, where they save, and the car that they got which was what their goal was. In the end person number 1 one because he saved in a bank. Sometimes throughout the lesson we would go through the 4 things of how we can spend our money wisely - Clear, Action, Save, and How long.

Matariki Celebration | Performances & Sausage Sizzle

This week Wednesday the school celebrated Matariki by having the Ukele group, Drumers group, Pacifica group, and the Kapa Haka group perform at the juniors and also by having a free sausage sizzle. Everyone sat on the junior benches as Ms Whaea Odie said a karakia translated in Maori and English. Then Ms Whaea Odi began to sing he honore and everybody joined in. The first group to perform was Kapa Haka. They danced to 3 different songs - Tamaki e, Tenei matou, Rona, and the boys preformed the haka afterwards. The junior kapa haka performed too. The next group to perform was the drummers which were Mr Matt, Andrew, Junior, and Mataio. The Ukulele group performed after the drummers and their were only 3 members - Angela, Avalon, and Florence. Ms Whaea Odi sang lean on me in the background as they played. I thought they did a great job since they didn't have much practice and the only time they did was on that day. The last group to perform was the pacifica group that I was apart of. In the end we had our sausage sizzle and everyone could get two sausages each. We sat on junior benches and ate then had our lunch time play.

Matariki | Maori

This week LS1 worked collaborative to create a D.L.O about Matariki. I worked with Afatia, Viva, and Nickaela to make a google presentation show how Matariki is celebrated, 3 facts about Matariki, the name of the 7 stars, and a song that the we learnt in Te Reo Maori. We had to discuss with each other and research to find out more information. I enjoyed and had fun working and creating the D.L.O with LS2.

Quiz | Man and Sea

L.I: To create a quiz of the text you read.
This week for reading we had to create a quiz of the text that we read last week, which for my group was Man and Sea. I created this quiz with Fau. The quiz could be made on a google form or other but we decided to choose kahoot. The two partners had to write 10 questions each so that we were putting in an equal amount of work. The questions had to be author and me or on my own. We also learnt synthesizing. Before creating the quiz we could make three D.L.O's that could help which was visualization which we could create a google draw and draw a scene from the story, make a key words and reminder list, and also the inference t-chart.

Here is the link to my quiz - Kahoot Quiz | Man and Sea

Narrative | Dialogue & Monologue

L.I: To write a narrative with dialogue.
This week for reading we read a text called the silent red book which was a silent story. We learnt about dialogue which is two people talking to each other and monologue which is just one person talking. In groups of three we had to come up with some ideas for what any two people in the scene could be saying to each other because it was silent video/story. Then we had to make a narrative for this story using monologue and dialogue. I showed this using a google presentation and for each scene writing what a short sentence of what is happening and the monologue or dialogue for it. I thought the book was very interesting and very good. I also took photos of the clips and used them in the slide so that you could see the scene that it came from.

M&M Fractions

L.I: To use our understanding fractions, decimals, and percentages.
This week for math we had to use our knowledge of fractions, and percentages in our work. First we played a chocolate bar sharing activity where you had to try and get the most chocolate in the end. Next we had to get into pairs with anyone, and my pair was Farzana. Everyone was handed one M&M pack and one person had to sort them out by colour and count them all. The other person wrote down all the other information. In the end you could eat the chocolate after you got the data you needed. Using the information you had, you had to answer a list of other questions as well where we had to use our thinking and our knowledge about fractions, decimals, and percentages.  Lastly we had to make two graphs, a pie graph, and a column graph,  using the data.
