  1. Hi Victoria,

More great fact hunting, well done! Do you think you would want to visit Ottawa during your visit? It does get pretty cold there during January. Unlike New Zealand at this time of year, the temperature drops well below zero - so if you're going there, make sure to pack lots of warm clothes.

I never knew that there were so many different languages spoken so commonly in Ottawa? I know large parts of Canada are bilingual with French and English, but Ottawa sounds like a very multicultural city. I guess it's kind of similar to Auckland like that then :-)

Thanks for another good blog Victoria, keep it up.

    Dan.

  2. Hi Victoria,

Hmmm... I'd be very surprised if Arabic and/or Spanish are languages commonly spoken in Ottawa. I live in a small town just outside of Ottawa and my experience is that French and English are, by far, the most commonly spoken languages. They are the 2 official languages of Canada, actually, and, because Ottawa is on the border of the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, there are many people who speak both languages while working in the city. It's really cool!

You're absolutely right that it's cold in Ottawa in January. Last week the temperature was -20 degrees Celsius- that's cold!!! I had to have lots of layers of wool on to keep warm enough when I walked our dog during the day.

I wonder what you would think of living in a city as cold as Ottawa!

    I'm enjoying your blog!

    Leslie
