Kiwi Sport | Swimming

This week Thursday we had swimming at the panmure YMCA lagoon pools. We had to go with the swimming coaches we went with last week which was for me, Cameron. First we went over again how to get in a pool safely and how to get into a river which is two hands on the wall, push off, and rotate your body into the water to get into the pool and both hands at each side and slowly get in to get into the rivier. Then we learnt how to float on our stomachs and our backs. Also learning with me was Sandra and then later on Nicole, Jayden, Raera, and Giovanni came over too. We had to push off the plat form and float as far as we could on our back then start kicking when we stopped with our legs to go further to the platform. Then we did the same thing on our backs. We also did the dolphin dive which everyone was familiar with. With practise this a few times with Cameron. We tried to dive in and go low and also repeatedly dived up and down like a dolphin. In then end we stood on the platform and did swam back however we wanted to all the way to the other side. We gave cameron a highfive and hoped out to head back to class.

Kiwi Sport | Swimming

This week for kiwisport we are learning to swim at the YMCA Panmure Lagoon Pools for 30 minutes. The year 6's got changed and then some worked with different coaches. My coach was Cameron. He was also teaching me with Sandra, Matthew, and Mojtaba. First we learnt how to get into a moving river or such. This was called pin where we stood up on the wall, and took a big step out into the water but bend the legs, then jump in. Everyone did good because it was pretty easy, but I took a smaller step than everyone else. Next we learnt the basics of how to get into the water. First we sat down on the wall and put out hands out on the side. Then we had to push up and slowly turn our body half way into the water with out hands still on the wall. Once we were in the water, we stood on the platform and did swimming with circle arms. Everyone knew how to do this so it was pretty easy. After we did that, we went off the platform again and did a different type of swimming using our hands. The cycle was thumbs up, thumbs down, little circles but very fast. We had to go forward off the platform and then slowly float on our backs. We couldn't kick our feet. In my opinion it was a little hard so that is why I failed at it a little. Then Cameron chucked two rings in the water and two people had to go find one at a time but it wasn't a race. First it was Sandra and Matthew, then Mojtaba and I. I was able to find my ring each time. After that we hoped out and got changed then headed back on the bus to go back to school.

Kiwi Sport | Rippa-Rugby

This week Thursday LS1 had kiwi sport in the hall with coach Hamish. This week we played a few rounds of rippa-rugby. First everyone got a belt. The class was halved into boys and girls then everyone was numbered into 4 groups. I was team 4 with Sakina, Matthew, Alice, Giovanni and Acein. Team 4  and 2 had to put on blue and team 1 and 3 had green belts. Every team got to play each other and play the same amount of rounds. We had to use the info and skills we learnt from the past weeks of practice and use them in the games. I think my group did good because we were passing the ball to everyone and used skills for us to score some points. The first teams that played were 1 vs 2, then 3 vs 4, next was 3 vs 2, and then 1 vs 4. In the end our team won with one draw and a win.

Kiwisport | Rippa-rugby

This week Thursday LS1 had kiwi sport on the netball court with Mr Hamish. First everyone got a belt and two rippa-tags. The first game we played was rippa-rush. This game is like bull rush but the rippa-rugby version. Everyone stayed on one side of the court and there were 2 rippa taggers in the center. If Mr  Hamish said something and someone in the group had it they had to run. The rippa taggers had to stay against the yellow line until the people started running. We played two rounds of this game before moving on. After rippa rush we were split into 3 groups. 2 Groups played at a time and the other group stood under the hut waiting for their turn. Each group had two rounds playing each. After that we played a game to practice backwards passing. The 3 groups lined up and some people of the group split and went on the other side. One person who was in front of the line started running forward and passed down to the next person who passed it down to the next person aswell. The last person with the ball passed it the person in front of them. Lastly we said goodbye to Mr Hamish and went back to class.

Kiwi Sport

This week Thursday we had kiwi sport on the courts with coach Mr Hamish. Today we were focusing on rippa. First everyone had to get a belt and 2 tags to put on each side of the belt. In the first activity we played a everybody is it where everyone was in and people had to try to get other people's tag and put the belt on their. We had to stay in a certain area. Once you got a tag from someone else, you could put it on your own belt. The goal was to get as much tags on your belt. For the first few games the most people got was 4. For the last round I was really focused on stealing tags for my own, and I was able to get the most with 7. Next we played rats and rabbits where there were two teams. To find the teams, we had to all get into partners and one partner stood on one side and the other partner stood on the other side. My partner was Sandra. On one side there was a row of yellow cones and on the other, there were orange cones. If Mr Hamish said orange, the people that were on the side of the orange had to run and the partners had to get them and rip their tag off. If Mr Hamish said yellow, then the yellow side had to run and their partner had to get them and rip their tag off. The next game we played was Ripparush which was like bullrush but it is rippa-rugby style. Since me and Sione won the last game we were the taggers or rippers while everyone one else were the runners. Mr Hamish would say something and whoever had it they would run, and if he whistled everyone ran. If you tag was ripped by one of the rippers then you had to join them. For the last activity we were split into 3 teams, One team put on bibs and the other 2 were non bibs. 2 Teams played at a time. This game we played was the same game we played last week. After a few rounds the bibs or non bibs team switched over with the team that wasn't playing. Some teams had good communication and passing which lead them to scoring many goals. Finally we took off the belts and tagged and went back to class.

Kiwi Sport | Rippa Rugby

This week for kiwi sport we had rippa rugby. Instead we played on the field with Mr Ogilve and learnt a few things that we would be doing in the actual kiwi sport lessons because the coach wasn't here. First we played got into pairs then numbered ourselves 1 or 2 My partner was Alayah. Alayah was 2 and I was 1. 2's went on the feild and wore no bibs and 1's got a bib and put it on. First we played everyone is it. The name is self explanatory, everyone is in and if you were tagged you had to sit out. After a few rounds of that we made it more hard by having when people got out they could tag someone that passed them but they had to sit in the same spot. After a few rounds of that we played a different game using 2 rugby balls. The bibs vs non bibs had a competition who could get all the people out with the rugby balls in the fast time. You only had a minute. We couldn't move around with the ball so we had to pass it. Bibs won. Then we practised doing a backward pass by having the team players pass back to each other until the reach a bib that was set on the feild. When we got to the bib we had to tap the ball on the bib and sit down. We had a few practised then we had a competition. In the end we came back to class.
