Retell the Story | Haiku Challenge 3

L.I: To identify and understand literary devices used in poetry.

I worked with Florence again for this third challenge, and together we retold the story of how Maui slowed the sun in a Haiku (5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables) using 3-5 verses. The first thing we did was watch a clip from YouTube explaining one of the versions of the myth & legend. We figured out the main ideas in the story and retold those parts only. And we took turns writing a verse and uploaded an image and the video onto on the DLO.

This is another DLO I've completed for the haiku challenges, and again we just practice writing a haiku choosing a different idea this time. I've underlined rain and added an image with the proper the attributes for visual effect. Coincidentally, it was raining when I wrote the poem so I took inspiration from what I felt and seen when I looked outside.

L.I: To define and understand literary devices used in poetry.

This week we look at poetry, and a style of poetry called Haiku. A regular Haiku is written in three lines. The top line with a maximum of 5 syllables, middle line is 7 syllables, and the bottom line is 5 syllables again. To understand more about this form of poetry, we completed 4 different challenges. As you can see, this is the first challenge I've completed. In this one, we can choose to practice writing our own haiku based off one of the listed ideas. I've chosen summer, and added a labelled for reuse image fit for the theme.

Composers: Researching Joseph Haydn

L.I: To use your smart researching skills to find information.

This is the interactive presentation I created on Composers. My last blog posts talks about who these people are and why they are important to the music we listen to today. Joseph Haydn is an example of one of these people. He was born in the classical period, and wrote 107 symphonies! In the DLO I talked about one of these symphonies, called "Surprise Symphony". I also went online and found 5 interesting facts about him for you to read!

Who is SZA? | Favorite Singer/Group...

L.I: To use your smart researching skills to find information.

This is a DLO I created on one of my favorite music artists, SZA. In learning, we have been looking at composers and some examples of them. These are the people who shaped and influenced the music today. In the poster I explain her music style and who she is. I also talked about why she is one of my favorites. I used my researching skills to find out three interesting facts about her. Fact 1 is most interesting to me, I myself and know many people who pronounce her name as S-Z-A.

LS2 Art Portraits Display

Today Haylee and I created a mural to welcome and introduce new visitors to our class, using a collection of student portraits. We collaborated on this display to come up with a good layout for the wall. After stapling on the portraits, we started to think about the type of title design that would best fit the wall. We went with a firework theme to accent the rest of the art. Haylee and I were really proud of the final product and so was Mrs. Anderson.

One of my current artists I’m listening to is Doja Cat, and J. Cole. My favorite subject in school is writing and reading, because it’s really fun to write my own stories and read fictional books...Roald Dahl is one of the best authors! Ballet w/ Chloe | Black Swan, White Swan

This week on Monday, LS2 had the opportunity to learn Ballet with dance educator, Chloe. We rehearsed the choreography of Black Swan White Swan from Swan Lake. First we warmed up to the foot-work, and hand flow exercise for the dance in groups. Slowly flapping our arms in an up and down motion, and walking across the hall. Our completed routine began with leaping from the side lines into positions and fell into a swan pose, and ended with a group ending pose. LS2 really enjoyed taking this Ballet Class, so we would like to thank Fiona for helping make this possible and also our Coach Chloe for tutoring us this amazing lesson.

Mounted Artwork Quatrefoils - Finished

This week for art we finished our quatrefoils and mounted them to put up on the walls. We also had to make a blurb for what each of the quatrefoils represents and means. After completting our quatrefoils for Armistice day theme, Max Gimblett theme, and Christmas theme, we had to cut it out to glue and put it on a big white sheet of paper. Our blurb had to be checked then printed out so we could cut and glue on the sheet of paper as well. The medium sized quatrefoil for our armistice/ANZAC day theme was used with pastel and the cross represented the soldiers who took their lifes and the poppies are to signal remembrance and peace of war. The big sized quatrefoil for our Max Gimblett theme was used with paint and represented his style using colours and shapes he used. The last quatrefoil which was the small sized one was used with colours and represented Christmas decorations and the weather. I was very happy with the out come and glad I was able to get it done. 

Max Gimblett | Quatrefoil Designs

L.I: To create Quatrefoil Designs inspired by themes.
L.I: To re-search about an artists to find out basic information about them.
This week we have been working on creating Quatrefoil designs inspired around Max Gimblett. In pairs, we had to re-search about Max Gimblett to find out information about the artist and his many art creations of Quatrefoils. My partner was Fau. A quatrefoil is 4 leaves or lobes that are joined together. We needed to find out the key facts of where he was born, where he group up, a few of his art displays, and what he did in 2015 and 2016. Then find the defenition of a quatrefoil and why Max uses the design, and 6 images of his work with other examples of quatrefoils that aren't art works. We finally finished searching after finding the installation of the art of remembrance. Lastly we digitally created our own quatrefoils based off three different themes then eventually make it physically. The themes were Max Gimblett Style, Armistice Day Style, and Christmas Style. Fau and I are currently up to creating the quatrefoils physically.

Sunset and Silhoutte | Auckland City Scape

This Monday we created visual art, physically, on paper of a sunrise or sunset and siloute of a cityscape. The citycscape I chose to do was a photo of auckland. We used refrence photos to help us or used our imagination to create and use different shapes to create the sunrise or sunset we chose.

First we chose a cityscape and inserted it on a google draw that was the size of an A4 piece of paper. Then we used shapes and tools to create a siloutte of the cityscape. We made our silouttes png and shared it into a folder to be printed out.

Then we started to create our background of the sunset or sunrise. I chose a photo of a sunset online then used my imagination and knowledge of what a sunset looked like, to finish off the background. The colours I used were Pink, Purple, Yellow, and Blue. This was done a black sheet of paper and we had to try to center it so that when we put the siloutte on, it would pop and stand out.

After we were given our Silouttes, we stuck them onto our finished backgrounds and glued labels on the paper to show whos artwork it is. The photo above shows my complete sunset and siloutte.

Intensive Art Week Recount

L.I: To accurately use a range of simple, compound, and complex sentences.
This week for writing we had to make a recount about art intensive week using tree. To create our recounts, we had to first think about what we were going to for the reveal part, then 3 minutes to discuss with a friend, and 7-10 minutes to write. We had to do this for only some of the ideas and paragraphs before just writing whatever we had. I wasn't able to complete it all on the first day, but I was left with only a few paragraphs left needed to do. Then after completing it, we needed to go over our work with Mr Wong to get any feedback to fix it. My story was good, but we were going to go over some things on Thursday. Our writing purpose for this week was - Personal Recount, and writing focus was - Sentence Structure.

Pop Art Self Potrait

This week LS1 has been working on creating a pop art styled art work of our self. First we researched about this style of art and Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol was very famous and known for doing this type of art. Pop art is taking something or someone that is popular and create it into art. After the researching we got on to doing the pop art self portrait. First we had our photo taken by Mr Wong. Then we those photos were printed out in black and white. What we had to do was, get the printed out photo of us and use a blue pen to outline your details and to separate the black parts from the white parts. Once we finished that we moved on to the next step. We had to turn the paper over and outline the details that we made on the front of the paper but on the back. We needed to make it very thick and dark because we would be using it as a stencil later so it saves us the trouble of having to draw it free handed. We used this technique so that it transferred onto the new sheet of paper better, we had to take our pencil and go over it back and forth going over the line making it thick and dark. We we go this part wrong, then we had to start from the begin again because this was an important step and we had to make sure that we didn't forget any detail. It took a quite a while to do so no one wanted to restart. If Mr Ogilvie or Mr Wong approved your work then you got to move on. Afterwards we did the transferring. We had to get a new white sheet of paper and got it taped to the back of your paper with the self portrait. This part you had to be very careful and persistent with it and if you got this wrong you needed to restart all the way from the beginning. This all took time to do so I was more scared about messing this part up. To transfer it, we had to get a red pen and press hard and go over all the lines that you made and details. You needed to make sure that you did everything before looking to see if you did it right. I was very happy and relieved to see that mine worked just fine. Now once we finished all that drawing, it was time for colouring! First we are doing pasteling to colour in all the white spaces. We needed to get a bright coloured pastel to make it pop, because that it like what Andy Warhol did. I chose the colour pink, and so did my other 2 friends Farzana and Sakina. With part aswell, if you messed up you needed to start from the beginning. If you messed up you either coloured in the black parts, went out lines or maybe coloured in some of the black parts on accident but it was to much so you had to restart because paint and pastel don't go well. Next, after finishing that, we were close to finishing. All we needed to do was painting and vividing. Farzana was the first one to finish her work. In my opinion I think it looks great. We had to use only black to colour in the black parts in the photo. I was able to get on to this part and let it dry. Lastly was the vividing. We had to outline all the lines in the photo that were pencil with a vivid. I took photos for each stage of the pop art so that you can see the process. I enjoyed doing this because I love art, it is one of my favourite subjects and also because I get to get a practise about pop art and to learn a new style of art.

Pop Art Poster

L.I: To create a poster showing information about Andy Warhol and Pop art.
This week we had to create a poster that talks about Pop art and Andy Warhol. For this task, we had to work in groups. In my groups I had - Sakina and Farzana. We watched a video that showed images of Andy Warhol's pop arts and a article about Andy Warhol. We we're able to find some of Andy Warhol's most famous artworks. We also inserted images and their attributions. We had a talk about what pop art is so we knew a bit of information and we had to search for the rest. Pop art stands for Popular art, it is a famous style of art that captures something or someone that is popular and create it into a artwork piece. Andy Warhol was very famous and known for do this style of art. His pieces sold for millions of dollars. In fact one of his art works - "The Campbell's Soup Can", sold for 11.7 million dollars. One of his artworks was the most second expensive of all time. I enjoyed finding out this information and using my text,colour, composition and layout skills to make it look good.

Complete Maths Artwork

L.I: To create piece of art using reflection, translation and rotation.
This week Mr Wong's group finally were moving on from planning and actually started to create the art piece. In my art work I used Pastels, Paint and dye. I chose the colours Orange, Blue and Green. When we first drew our pattern on the white plain piece of paper we first had to make a template then draw out 9 of them. We had to be very slow and careful to make the design or else it would come out to rushed and squiggly and wobbly lines. Then the next step once we have finished was to colour them all in. The first few I coloured with paint, the next I coloured with pastel then the last I coloured in dye. This was really fun but took quite amount of time and we didn't have that much time for maths so we did have to finish it quickly. I was able to finish mine. The picture shown above is what mine turned out looking. I changed the places of a few pieces of paper but that is alright.

Maths Art Planning

L.I: To create a piece of art using rotation, translation and reflection.

This week for maths we have been planning out artwork that we will soon be making. We got into groups and looked at an example of the art that we will be making which is similar but maybe a different symbol. We got into groups and planned out what we what we would use or need to make it and more. The DLO shown is mine. I found the pattern online. I made my art work on a google draw. I choose 3 colours and made sure I included reflection, translation and rotate. The background (suppose to be a sheet of paper) is black. Everything I got was from the example of the sheets of artwork we had seen. If the background was dark the pattern would be the lighter version and the same thing around, if the background was light the pattern would be a darker version. In the artwork there was also patterns, see if you can spot them.
