Fraction Problems

L.I: To create fraction problems in an interactive book.
This week for Math we had to look at a fraction problem card and use our multiplications to solve it. We had to get into a group of 3 to 4 and solve fraction problems together. We then had to create ones ourselves for the other groups to solve. To show our understanding we had to create an interactive book of fraction questions for other people to solve. They had to be questions for 1/3, 1/4, and 1/5 questions. I create a problem for 1/3, Miiana did a problem for 1/4, and Florence did a problem for 1/5. The answers are linked on the corner of the slide. To solve a fraction problem, you can use your multiplication. For example, There are 20 cars. 1 quarter of the cars are red, the other 3/4 are blue. How many blue cars are there? To solve this, you can find the multiple to 4 that equals 20, which is 5. This means 5 cars are in a quarter. If we are counting the 3 quarters, it basically is saying we are counting 3 fives. 3 multiplied by 5 equals 15 which is our answer.

Adding Fractions with Different Denominators

L.I: To add and subtract fractions with unlike and like denominators.
This week for maths we learnt to add fractions that have different denominators. Then we had to create a D.L.O to show our learning on how to do it. I used a google slide and my problem I chose was 2/5 + 4/6. For my problem, you multiply 2/5 by 6 and 4/6 by 5. The denominator would be 30 and the numerator was 32 by adding the two multiplyed numerators.

Multiplying Fractions | Animation (3/5 x 10)

L.I: Find fractions of whole number amounts using multiplication and division.
This week for Math we learnt how to multiply fractions. To multiply fractions you don't change or touch the denominator. You multiply the amount you have of the fractions with the multiply to get the answer. Say if it was 45/5, that would be the improper answer. The proper answer would be 9 wholes. To show our learning we had to create an animation showing how to multiply with a fraction. The problem I decided to pick 3/5 x 10. For the animation I used shapes, arrows, lines to show what was going on, and text to tell in a short description what was going on. The answer to my problem was 30/5 but the improper fractions was 6 wholes.

M&M Fractions

L.I: To use our understanding fractions, decimals, and percentages.
This week for math we had to use our knowledge of fractions, and percentages in our work. First we played a chocolate bar sharing activity where you had to try and get the most chocolate in the end. Next we had to get into pairs with anyone, and my pair was Farzana. Everyone was handed one M&M pack and one person had to sort them out by colour and count them all. The other person wrote down all the other information. In the end you could eat the chocolate after you got the data you needed. Using the information you had, you had to answer a list of other questions as well where we had to use our thinking and our knowledge about fractions, decimals, and percentages.  Lastly we had to make two graphs, a pie graph, and a column graph,  using the data.

Think Board | Math Fractions

L.I: To count in fractions forwards and backwards to a named whole number.
L.I: To recognize the whole of an object, part of an object and equal parts and their names.
This week for Math we have been learning to do fractions. First we went on a site that tested our knowledge on fractions. Fractions are made up of the numerator and the denominator. The numerator is the top number of the fraction that shows you how much you have out of the parts of the whole, and the denominator is the bottom number that shows how much the whole was split into. Then we had to create a think board and pick a fraction to do. I decided to go with 5 eighths. We had to work individually because we had to show our work and understanding of fractions. There was also a example to look at. The D.L.O was separated in 4 individual spaces for different things. I had to show the fraction with a picture, using equipment, in a story, and also other ways I could show it. 

Fractions: Add & Subtract

L.I: How to add and subtract fractions that have different or same denominators.
This week for maths we have been learning how to add fractions with different denominators and how to subtract fractions with different denominators. We had to make a copy of a google doc which had a list of addition and subtraction fraction questions and we had to put what the answer is in fractions and what the answer is in mixed numeral if it had one. To help me with the a few of the questions I used a white board and figured it out on there or I used pencil and paper. I learnt to subtract fractions also fractions with different denominator and add fractions that have different denominator.

Fraction Problem Solving Video Recording

L.I: To add and subtract fractions of the same unit size.
For maths this week we have been learning how you solve fractions equation. We only practised with addition equations. For the task we had to create a google slide using some addition fraction  equations then solve them on a video recording to teach others how to do it. The app I used was Screencastify which I was able to download on chrome web store and on it I am able to share my screen and talk while recording at the same time. I learnt to solve addition fraction problems the numerals way and how to add fractions together.
