Who's the Best? (Information Poster) | Independent Reading Challenge

For the past few weeks in reading, we have been doing an independent reading challenge to extend our ability in remembering, understanding, applying, analysing, evaluating, and creating when it comes to reading. In this independent challenge, we are to complete those 6 strategies and one of the many responses. I read a book called Who's the Best?, about the planets declaring who is the best based of their special features. I created an information poster about the planets and solar system with facts about them.

Nerves

L.I: To search for research materials appropriate for our reading levels.
This week for reading we had to find out information about nerves, specifically what is a nerve, what do nerves do, and how do nerves work which was also our challenge. We had to create a D.L.O but not a poster and write what is the challenge and how am I meeting the challenge. I chose to create this on a google slide because I had a lot of information to put on for separate topics. For the challenge we had to find 4 different sources of information - library book, school journal, internet text, and a video. Ways and search engines we can use or do to find those sources are - Library book search or the green book with all the contexts for the library books, journal surf for the school journal, google for the internet text, and YouTube for the video. One failure I found in this challenge is that I didn't use any information from the videos I picked but instead from the site I picked and from a different video. A success I found of this challenge was that I was able to find out the information I need and I can explain what a nerve and nervous system is in a short description.

Doraemon

This week for cyber-smart we had to create a google slide about one of the characters called "Doraemon" or "Anpanman". First we had to get into a group of 4 or 5. In my group there was Viliami, Ellenora, Sione A, and Jordan. We decided to do Doraemon. Before making the google slide, the whole class discussed the things we needed to make the google slide. Like researching and what we have to research and etc. In the slide we included information like - Who is Doraemon, What he dislikes and likes, Who invented Doraemon, and What is their medium/media.

Commonwealth Games Poster

LI: To create a DLO showing information about the Commonwealth games. This week for inquiry we had to make a DLO about the Commonwealth games. First we had to find information about the Commonwealth games. We needed to use our smart searching skills to find out information. The things that we had to find was a map of where the Commonwealth games is, how far it is from Panmure Bridge school, how many countries are competing, the motto and logo for this years game, information on 3 New Zealand medallists, who the 3 medallists are, what sports they do, what was their winning time and who Sophie Pascoe is. For the DLO we decided to do a google draw. For the google draw we had to make sure our print design rules were good. The print design rules are text, colour, composition and layout. We had to show our DLO to Mr. Wong, so he could check if the print design rules were good. I think that the LS1 minute to win it Olympics is really fun because we get to learn new minute to win it activities every week this term. 

This vs That

L.I: To find out different information and facts about the Olympics.

This week for inquiry, we had to create a DLO showing information and facts about the Olympics and our school PBS. We needed to work in pairs, but I worked in a group of 3 with Farzana and Sakina. We needed to find and write the Olympic motto then the PBS motto, the Olympic creed then the PBS Whakatauki, the Olympic flag then the PBS Logo and lastly the Olympic values and the PBS values. We were able to find out all of the information for each of the questions. The connecting between our school values and Olympic values are how we also have respect, excellence in our values and also friendship is something we all know and follow at school. The connection between the Olympic flag, and our school logo is that they both represent something that has to do with what it is and it's location, like with the Olympic flag, the rings represents different contenets and the PBS logo represents how we are near to the panmure bridge. The connecting with the creed and our school Whakatauki, they both are encouraging and motivating you to do something that has to do with whatever it is. Lastly with Motto's, they both also have something to do with what the things are about like with the strive to achieve motto, they talk about strive to achieve in learning and with the faster, higher, stronger motto they are kind of talking about your capabilities and your skills and how it takes a lot of training.

Winter Olympics

L.I: To create DLO and find information about the Winter Olympics.
Today for inquiry, we had to create a google draw and answer 5 questions about the Winter Olympics. A map of where it is and where it is being held, How far is it away from New Zealand, How long does it go for, How many countries are competing, and How many disciplines are there. For this inquiry activity we had to work in groups, in my group I had Sulia, Kaitlyn and Hinemoa. We used our researching skills and found out the right information. We even put extra information, and wrote how many athletes are competing. With this DLO, we were also practising our layout, composition, text and colour to get better with how we make our DLO's.

Community Roles

L.I: To classify personal relationships.
This week for inquiry we had to create our own google slides and choose our own 3 roles from the options that were listed that we would like to talk about. This time we had to work independently. The roles each had to be from a different box. The boxes were - Emergency Service, Professionals, Trades and government agencies. I decided to choose - Libraries, Ambulance and Doctor. We had to include attributed images in the slide to show the viewers what it is our what it looks like. We had to find information about the roles we chose and answer the following questions - How does this role interact with you or your whanau/family and How do the role interact with each other.

Kate Sheppard

L.I: To make connections, identify main ideas, summarise, evaluate and synthesise facts through learning conversations.

Today for reading we made DLOs about what we know about Kate Sheppard. We are given different task about this one topic - suffragettes and this was the one of them, and the first one to do. We already know a little bit about this because we have done a little bit of this with Ms Anderson already, we are just carrying on from there. To do this task I made a google draw and researched about Kate Sheppard. I inserted a labled for reuse photo of her just for those who don't know what she looks like. During this task I learnt a lot more about Kate/Katherine Sheppard but I couldn't fit as much information I wanted to about her.

Ecosystem Diagram - African Jungles

L.I - To investigate the effects of organisms on their ecosystem

From the researching I did, I now know many diffferent producers, Carnivores/Herbivores, Decomposers and consumers that are in African Jungles.
