Activity 3: The Diary of Anne Frank

In this activity we found out about a girl named Anne Frank. She lived in Germany with her Jewish family in the 1930's. When World War 11, her and her family were forced to hide in a secret room in their house for two whole years. At the time, Anne would write in a diary in which later her dad made into a book titled "The Diary of a Young Girl". For the task we created a diary entry to recount the most extraordinary day. It could be an actual event, or something we made up. I chose to make up a story but still made it personal because I could be more creative with what I wrote.

Activity 2: Romeo and Juliet

English version: This morning was quiet. I'm awake before everyone else, so I lay in bed for a few minutes and just listen to the birds outside of my window. It's still a bit wet outside from last night, and cold and windy. I'm not that hungry, so for breakfast is a toasted PB & J sandwich. And I start my day!..

Shakespearean version: This morning wast quiet. I'm awaketh bef're ev'ryone else, so I did lie in sleep chamber f'r a few minutes and just hark to the birds outside of mine own window.  T's still a did bite did wet outside from last night of all, and bitter cold and windy.  I'm not yond fill'd with pangs of hunger, so f'r breakfast is a toast'd PB & J sandwich.  And I starteth mine own day!..

For this activity we looked at a man named William Shakespeare, a famous author, poet, and playwright. One of his most popular plays is Romeo and Juliet, which you might've heard of. Shakespeare wrote his plays in English, but they weren't like the modern words we use today. They call it "Shakespeare Language", and to learn more about it we used a translating tool to see what it was like. We were asked to write a short recount of what we did today, and use this tool to translate it! You can read mine above. This activity was pretty cool, although I've looked at Shakespeare and this translator before.

Activity 1: Rags to Riches

For this first activity of the last week we took a look at J.K Rowling, who has written the Harry Potter series of books and is a very popular author. Knowing that books need to be engaging and interesting for the reader, it's important that the cover is too. Then, we were asked to design our own book cover for our favorite book! But it must include basic things like the title, drawings, and author. I chose "Matilda" by Roald Dahl, since it's a really good book and movie.

Activity 3: Apple vs Microsoft

For this last week 3 activity for day 1 we looked at the two biggest names in the field of digital technology, Bill gates and Steve jobs. These two entrepreneurs have accomplished many things. Bill gates is the founder of Microsoft and Steve jobs is known as a co-founder of Apple. Apple and Microsoft are both are seen as competitors or rivalries. Inspired by that, we were asked to look at three more common rivalries in whatever subject. And we had to provide a picture that represents the rivalry between the two brands/companies/people. The ones I chose are showed in a presentation above.

Activity 2: Influencers

For this activity we looked at influencers on the YouTube platform also known as youtubers. These people create videos and channels about almost any and everything whether it's vlogging, gaming, or tutorials, but the list goes on. We were asked to think about creating our own YouTube channel: What would it be about? What videos would you post? I chose to be a D.I.Y channel, because it's the best way I can express and share my creativity. I would post crafty and useful videos on how to make or do things. But I would also love to have a personal YouTube channel so I can post whatever.

Activity 1: The World Wide Web

For this activity to start week 3, we took a look at a few websites that are helpful for our learning. But first we learnt about Tim Berners-Lee who was the creator and inventor of the world wide web which is an information system. The four websites I have listed help me a lot with my learning and in class. I've took a picture like asked, as well as information about why I use it and how it is helpful, with a link to it.

Activity 3: ‘Dear Jacinda’

For this last day 1 Summer Learning Journey activity for week 2, we wrote a letter to Jacinda talking about an important issue in New Zealand. It could be about education, health or welfare, or maybe a controversial topic. I chose Child Poverty in NZ, which covers education and wealth. The reason I chose this was because I know many children not only in New Zealand but all around the world, suffer from poverty, and aren't able to be a kid and live their lives freely. Children are more likely to live in poverty than adults. Child poverty is children not being able to sustain or afford for basic needs.

Activity 2: NAIDOC Youth of the Year

For this challenge, we were to calculate Dr Jessa Rogers age when she won the NAIDOC youth of the year award. The information we were given was she was born 7th of April 1985, and received the award on the 9th of July in 2010. The following working out is my calculating and answer..

First step is to calculate the months because it will be the hardest to count, and the main goal. An important step is the order of months - April, May, June, July.  The bold names are the months we need to count up first before we can to the 9th of July and sum our days. May has 31 days, June has 30. We start at May by adding 23 days to April 7th. But we quickly finish May by adding 31. Now June + 30 means we would be at July. Now all we have to do is add 9 more days. Doing the final counting, her birth year (1985) + 25 years gets us to the final date 9 July 2010.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY: April 7 + 23 = May + 31 = June + 30 = July + 9 = July 9.
 23 + 31 + 30 + 9 = 92 days which is 3 months/2 days. 1985 + 25 = 2010.

Dr Jessa Rogers would have been..25 years, 3 months, and 2 days old!

Activity 1: Playing Favourites

For this first Summer Learning Journey activity for week 2, we created a list of 5 of our favorite things to do with some photos. It was hard choosing my top 5, because I like having a bigger variety. Here are a few things I like to do..I like reading fictional books to enter my imagination, and writing stories/summaries, or etc because it's my favorite subject I love being with friends and family whenever possible because I love their company and we can spend more time together. I enjoy all games, digital or physical. I'm really good at online drawing, especially when it comes to tracing.

Activity 2: Discovering Aotearoa

Today we are starting the first official week of the Summer Learning Journey. This is the second activity for day 1. We had to create a DLO or something about our Cultural. I am Tongan, and I get it from my Mom's side of the the family. Read more about me and my Cultrutal in this presentation.

Activity 1: Setting Sail

1. Porridge - Is healthy and nutritious, and the wholegrain oats contain helpful fiber.
2. Spaghetti - Whole-wheat spaghetti are a good source of fiber.
3. Backed Beans - They are a good source of protein and high in fiber.
4. Noodles - Instant ramen noodles provide iron.
5. Biscuits - Digestive biscuits help our digestion and improve our health.
6. Soup - Eating soup has higher intake of fiber, vitamin, magnesium, potassium and iron.
7. Trail mix - Nuts have fiber, proteins, minerals, and vitamins that are all good for you.
8. Canned Tuna - A good source of essential nutrients.
9. Dried Fruit - Boost fiber and nutrient intake; supply body with large amounts of antioxidants.
10. Bread - The nutrients are easy to digest and available for body use.

For this activity we watched a video on the pacific explorers and how they traveled. We then had to list 10 food items we would take if we were setting sail and why. I mainly listed canned and dried foods, nuts, and easy to make meals. This is because canned and dried food lasts longer.

Beijing Poem | Activity 3 (Day 1) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 4

The pollution here is deadly,
It hit Beijing heavily.
What a shame,
This is a mess, but who can you blame.

This was Activity 3 of Day 1 for Week 4 in the Summer Learning Journey. For this Activity I had to write a poem if I imagined to go to Beijing in China and how I would feel including with the air pollution there. I decided to create a poem that rhymes for this with only 4 lines.

The Taniwha | Activity 2 (Day 1) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 4

This was Activity 2 for Day 1 of Week 4 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this Activity I had to read one article about the Taniwha and watch a short video about it as well. Based of the information, I had to make up weather I believed in it or not. I personally don't care weather this creature exists or doesn't, because it's not bothering me but I currently think it doesn't. As this creature has many stories and different views of what it looks like, there is nothing for me that proves it is actually living and breathing. Weather it does or does not exists, the Taniwha is New Zealand's representative and in it's traditions.

5 Question for Dame Suzie Mocrieff | Activity 1 (Day 1) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 4

Image result for WOW Dame Suzie1) What did you want the World of Wearable art to tell people?

2) How did you get the inspiration for this yearly event?

3) What are your thoughts on WOW and what it has become?

4) How are these dresses special to you?

5) What  is one thing you would like to say for participating and embracing the World of Wearable art or who are inspired?

This was Activity 1 of Day 1 for starting Week 4 in the Summer Learning Journey programme. For this Activity I had to imagine I was invited to this year's WOW Awards and had the opportunity to interview Dame Suzie Mocrieff, the women who created the event. I had to list 5 different meaningful questions that I would ask her on that day. I had no clue who she was and this event before I did this, but was able to think of questions based off information given.

Temperature Graph | Activity 3 (Day 1) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 3

This was Activity 3 of Day 1 for Week 3 of the Summer Learning Journey programme. For this Activity I had to make a graph either digitally or physically of the hottest temperatures for places on record. These were - Dallol (Ethiopia), Dasht-e Loot (Iran), Tirat Zvi (Israel), Kabili (Tunisia), and Bandar-e Mahshahr (Iran). Using google sheets and google draw I created my Graph digitally.

Summer Sun Smart | Activity 2 (Day 1) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 3

1: Wear a Sunhat going out to give your face shade.
2: Put on Sunscreen before going out somewhere you  might be in a long period of time.
3. Use Sunglasses before going out anywhere in the sun.
4. Be aware of the time you're spending in the sun and try to stay in shady areas.
5. Clothe in protective things for your skin.

This was Activity 2 for Day 1 of Week 3 in the Summer Learning Journey programme. For this Activity I was to list five different ways that we can do this summer to be protected and safe from the sun. After writing down things from my prior knowledge, and using a provided site as well as researching to get different ways I complete listing them all.

Best Time of Year | Activity 1 (Day 1) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 3

This was Activity 1 for Day 1 of Week 3 to the Summer Learning Journey. To start off Week 3, I had to think about what time of year of seasons is the best for tourists to visit New Zealand. I also had to list three things the tourists should do whilst in New Zealand. I think Autumn would be the best season to visit New Zealand because it's at good weather and it is a less busy time to be there with the other tourists and the busy roads. The first thing the tourists should visit is the popular Sky tower of course. Another thing is to go to Rotorua because there are many activities there as well as the last place, which is Christchurch or the Auckland Panmure bridge which they might see anyway.

I had to research these questions to find their answers. Not only telling which ones are true or false, I also provided a sentence of proof below the fact.

Cycling Race Support Crew | Activity 2 (Day 1) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 2

SUPPORT CREW:
1) Tiava because she is a good biker and hard worker.
2) Joshua because he can move fast and is really strong.
3) Kahlista because she is smart and ordered.

For the second activity for the day 1 of week 2 Summer Learning Journey, I had to choose three people as a support crew and why if I were in the Lake Taupo Cycle Race. The people listed were all my siblings because they fit what I needed. My sister Tiava has her own bike and is used to biking for a period of time, and she is very determined when it comes to things. My brother Joshua because he is very fast when moving his legs and he is really muscular as well. Lastly, my other sister Kahlista because she is the eldest and knows more about things and can organise everything. Plus they are all people close to me and I can be comfortable with, and all extremely funny/happy people.

Favourite Summer Activity/Swimming! | Activity 1 (Day 1) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 2

This was activity number 1 of day 1 for week 2 under the Summer Learning Journey. To start this new week, I had to use a picture to show me doing one of my favourite summer activities. Although the picture doesn't show much, it was a photo taken of after my two sisters and I went to one of my favourite places to be because it is one of my favourite things I like to do in the summer, swimming. The only place I go to is the YMCA Lagoon pools. This is one of my favourite activities because I can cool off in the pool and I usually organise to go with my friends. I enjoy swimming very much because I can not only have fun, but I can get outside and enjoy the weather.
