Main Idea & Details | Waltzing Matilda

In reading we looked at a Poem written by a rich and wealthy man, about the life of the poor in Australia in the 1800's. We read Waltzing Matilda, and in partners we worked collaboratively to write the main idea of the poem and the evidence and detail that proves it. Fui and I discussed the simple idea of the poem in 3 main parts. The swagman attempting to steal the sheep, the police arriving to arrest him, and the man trying to escape by a water-hole.

20 Word Summary & Picture | Waltzing Matilda

This week in reading we took a look at Australian poem written by Andrew Barton about a swag-man and his crime called Waltzing Matilda. We defined a few words in the poem that we didn't understand, and went over the meaning behind it. In partners, we made a summary of the poem by listing 20 words in the poem, then filtering it down to the 6 most important words and making a summary using those words. Then thinking about the first paragraph, we created an imaginative drawings of what it might look like as the poem had no pictures to go with the writing. I drew the Coolibah tree, the billy boil, the water-hole, and of course the man by the Coolibah tree, singing.

Beijing Poem | Activity 3 (Day 1) - Summer Learning Journey | WEEK 4

The pollution here is deadly,
It hit Beijing heavily.
What a shame,
This is a mess, but who can you blame.

This was Activity 3 of Day 1 for Week 4 in the Summer Learning Journey. For this Activity I had to write a poem if I imagined to go to Beijing in China and how I would feel including with the air pollution there. I decided to create a poem that rhymes for this with only 4 lines.
