Activity 1: Rags to Riches

For this first activity of the last week we took a look at J.K Rowling, who has written the Harry Potter series of books and is a very popular author. Knowing that books need to be engaging and interesting for the reader, it's important that the cover is too. Then, we were asked to design our own book cover for our favorite book! But it must include basic things like the title, drawings, and author. I chose "Matilda" by Roald Dahl, since it's a really good book and movie.

  1. Tēnā koe i tēnei ahiahi Victoria,

You have created an AMAZING book cover. You should be so proud of yourself! I am so impressed. I have shared this with my team here at the Summer Learning Journey, and they are equally impressed :)

What made you choose Matilda? I also completely adore Roald Dahl and his creativity! My favourite of his would have to be The Twits OR The Witches. Have you read those books?

One of my favourite parts about Matilda is Miss Honey. I'm currently studying to become a teacher, and she was actually one of the people (although she's fiction), who inspired me as she made such a positive impact on Matilda's life. Who is your favourite characters?

  2. Kia ora Victoria

Erica told me to come and check out this blog post because it was so phenomenal and WOW - she certainly wasn't wrong. What a wonderful rendition of Roald Dahl's book, Matilda - did you draw the picture yourself? What programme did you use to create this book cover?
I've added your blog post to our outstanding blog posts within Manaiakalani, here's the link if you'd like to check it out: https://sites.google.com/site/summerlearningjourney/participation-and-prizes/outstanding-blog-posts?authuser=0

Well done Victoria, I see what you mean when you said you spent a lot of time on the quality of your blog posts and I really respect that you've taken the time to care about your work.

  3. Hi Victoria,
I liked how you put lots of detail and effort into your redesign of the cover. I also liked how you hung the name Matilda with strings, and the floating books. What other books do you like?
