Athletics Day

This week Friday the whole school had athletics. For athletics day you could wear mufti which is any clothing, but the teachers wanted us to dress up depending on our team colour. You didn't have to but since all the classes were split into red, blue, yellow or green team they wanted us to show what team we are in by our clothing. On athletics day there are a bunch of activities which and you need to try to beat the other teams by co-operating with your own team and try your best. Depending on what place you came you get a certain amount of points. You only have a certain amount of time to play the activity before Mr Ogilvie pressed the horn which meant move to a different activity. As we did the activities, music played in the background on the big speakers. I was red team, and in red team I had - Raera and Pua. They were great team mates to work with. There were only 9 sessions that we rotated around. Some of the games I can remember was Rest/Dance which was the first thing my group/the year 5's did. Basically we could dance to the music that played or we could rest. I also remember Netball/Basketball and 2 of the teams would sit out and wait for there turn whilst the other teams played for a while. On both sides of the court there were hoops, on one side there was a basketball hoop, and on the other there was a netball hoop. We had the netball and basketballs. One of the teams did basketball whilst the other team did netball and the coaches would count how many points each team got. Another one of the activities was rob the nest. In each team there was a tagger that would tag other people but of course not the other taggers from the other teams. If you got tagged you had to stay there until some clapped between your legs and clapped your hands which meant you were free to go. A bunch of tennis balls and soft balls were scattered around the hall and you just had to try and grab as much as you could. The last activity that I am going to talk about is the Surf lifesavers. One team at a time had to lay on the stomachs and wait for one of the coaches to clap then we had to run and search for a bean bag before anyone else did. Then lastly the winners of each team versed the other winners from the other teams. At the end we had a sprint race for each class.
